So my car is an 03' and all my speakers are all popped and I think it is fair to say I need to change them. I am not that big into buying the big stereo systems & spending abou 1k for that, I rather spend that money on the engine like any of us. So with that said what set of 4 speakers that give a nice thump can you recommend and what set of tweeters? Can I get the twitters a little bigger and will they fit on the casing where the original ones came out of? Thanks fellas for any help
that is like asking what brand of tires to buy. there are so many choices out there it is hard to tell you what is best. the best advice i can give you is to stick with a name brand (alpine, pioneer, etc) and to buy an amp. using head unit power only you will not get much more response out of aftermarket speakers than the stocks provided. it will most likely sound better but it won't have any kick to it. an amp will give you a much better sound.
on the inexpensive side look into the alpine type-s series. decent speakers, decent pricing. they don't require a lot of power either so you can get a smaller amp to drive them.
if budget is your main concern forget about the dash speakers. invest a little more money in your front speakers. component speakers will theoretically give you a better sound but usually require more power and the stock tweet location (dash) is a terrible place to mount tweets. the sound waves will reflect off the glass and go everywhere. i played with a few locations and found that mounting my tweets in the sail panel gave me the best response.
second best would be mounting them in the door trim, a few inches above the 6.5" speaker.
Technically this is the place you are supposed to place the tweeters, I believe within 6 inches of the woofer is the rule, but I've never liked that placement because of legs and other objects getting in the way of the sound waves, at least on a daily driver car.

I agree i have the alpine type-r's in my car running off just the head unit and they hit pretty good. enough to where i have been asked a few times if i had a system.
but as for the tweeters I was wondering if its hard to fix the stock ones and if there is a thread about it. mine have not worked since i got the car and i would like them to lol

what exactly are you running? if you replaced the front speakers with alpine (or any brand really) there should be no need to run the stock tweeters.
Wll if you want to get technical on this car there front speakers are not tweeters at all. They are a 3" speaker with a small driver on them. If you want to replace them rockford fosgate and infinity make a replacement that uses the same two bolt pattern.

Technically, I think it's a 3" mid with a whizzer cone. Regardless, that location is the absolute worst place in the world to mount a speaker.
Where you mount a tweeter really depends on how high your midrange can play and crossover freq of your mid/tweets.
If your mid/tweets are crossed over kinda high (4.5khz or higher) then put them in the sail panel.
If they are crossed over kinda low (3k 3.5k) then mount them closer to the mid.

it's a 3.5" frame, but the actual speaker diaphragm (cone) is like 1.5 or 2", and there's a capacitor on it which high-passes the speaker at about 6 or 8 kHz (can't remember which, trashed them a long time ago.) Effectively it is a tweeter, even if the actual design of the speaker isn't well suited for it.

well im planning on putting subs in, and running all my speakers on a amp. and i was just wondering how to get to the tweeters cause i want bass but still wanna hear the singer. So is there no point to even deal with them?
nope. forget em. get a good set of comps and move the tweet around in your car before mounting it. see what position sounds best for you.
i run a garmin nuvi and got a little creative. i removed the dash speakers and replaced them with an old set of boston 3.5". i took and old 2x30 amp i had in a closet and mounted it under the passenger seat. i then ran the audio fromt he garmin down to the amp and then amp to new dash speakers. now i have the garmin voice prompts, with their own volume control, playing while the radio is on. it's the best of both worlds.
