Default Just a few car audio questions!

So I haven't had anything aftermarket audio wise since my last car. That has been a good 3 years ago so I am looking to get back into it but I am getting a bit confused on some things.First off I plan on running:

2 Memphis PR10D4's
Each is rated at
Dual 4 ohms
250W RMS
87dB

I have had nothing but good luck with Memphis in the past so I am going to stick with them. I have heard amazing things about Orion subs so if anyone has any suggestions on them(specifically the Orion HCCA 10.4) I'd be glad to hear them. I also plan on replacing door and deck speakers and wiring them to the amp also. I am more-so wondering what size amp you all would suggest? I haven't done this in so long the whole impedance part is confusing me so I don't know what amp to purchase. Should I match impedance on the subs?(4 ohms). Any help would be appreciated!

I am not that familiar with Memphis subs but the Orion model is a nice sub.

You first have to decide on what speakers you want to use and then get an amp that will properly power them. The subs mentioned are dual 4 ohm, so if you have a pair you can have a final ohm load of 1 or 8 when wiring them together. You are limited only by the fact that some amps cannot handle a 1 ohm load. Unfortunately for you this rules out most of the 5 channel amps on the market as they cannot handle a 1ohm on the sub channel.

Thanks for the quick reply! I want something that thumps HARD and that's why I was thinking the orion. My buddy used to have an orion h2 quite a few years back and it was brutal. If i was to for now run ONLY the orion and wait for door/deck speakers later, what amp would you suggest?

stats on the orion are:
Dual 4ohms
1500W RMS
84dB.

There is also a 2ohm version that is a bit more expensive. Perhaps you could tell me if that make it a much better sub and why.

Thanks!

that's like asking me what kind of oil you should use in your car. i use what i like, alpine pdx series, but any quality amp should work out.

the only difference in ohms has to do with your wiring options.

Yeah I was getting confused alot about the impedance values due to the different wirings that i could chose. I plan on staying with the memphis because they are just more suited to my price range.

If the memphis are dual 4ohm 250W RMS am I safe to say I can run a 2ch amp such as the KENWOOD KAC-7204 which has a 250 Watts x 2 (2 ohm)/500 Watts x 1 (4 Ohm Bridged). I assume this is correct meaning I have 2 different wiring possibilities, either bridged @4ohms or each sub on their own channel with a load of 2ohms. I assume matching the RMS of the sub and the amp is the best idea? I know max rms means nothing. Is it possible to run an amp that has an RMS that is more than the subs RMS? As in, would it be safe if it was a 2ch amp doing 300w x 2 @2ohm?

Thanks for all the help so far, just trying to get all this correct so i buy the correct parts the first time.

imo it is always best to have some headroom so buying an amp that is a bit more powerful than the subs rated rms is the way to go. the most important thing is to set your gains properly when doing the install.

Well I found an amp for a steal. It is a Power Acoustik BAMF 1250/2. It says it does 280W RMSx2 @2ohm which is exactly what I need. Picked one up for 100 bucks shipped so I feel I made out well since I have heard some good reviews. I need to determine now what box I want to use(either ported or not) and pick up a decent HU. Anyone have some suggestions for a good HU around 200ish bucks? I'm so anxious to get this all in I havent had a system in forever. lol.

Oh yeah, any suggestions on a box? I can get a ported memphis box for like 120 and the local shop sells non ported boxes for like 70. Just wondering if there is a place to get more bang for the buck out there. Thanks all!

either way make sure whatever you get is built based on the specs of the sub. the specs can be found here:

http://www.memphiscaraudio.com/docum...mendations.pdf

if at all possible stay away from cheap prefab enclosures. see if your local shop builds their own boxes, and if they do look at them before you buy. the memphis box should work nicely for you as well, if it is in fact from them. generally speaking a ported box will be a bit louder and sealed will be a bit tighter, but that isn't always the case.

if you want it setup fast buy the memphis box for now. you can always build your own sealed later.
