I've had my phone to jailbroken to 3.1 but downgraded to 3.0.1 because I can get free tethering. You can get MMS on 3.0 if you update the carrier file with the official one using certain backdoors via itunes.

The only thing is if you want to unlock your phone (use another service besides AT&T) is you have to make sure not to use the "official updating via iTunes" or else it will upgrade your baseband and you wont be able to unlock the phone. But on the other hand if you never care to sell the phone as "unlocked" or use it for other carriers you should be fine.

For more info check out: Dev-Team Blog and QuickPWN Too much to post so you can read up there.

I usually take an already jailbroken restore file and restore my phone with that.

no because i even uninstalled everything because it drove me crazy...it still didnt get better, as soon as 3.0 came out i upgraded and it was 30x faster...

so im staying away from it, honestly the only thing worth having is installous, other than that its just visual things that drain your battery, like it doesnt drain fast enough...

My battery is fine and it runs exactly the same. Sorry you had an issue with being jailbroken, but to me its the only way to be with the iPhone.

Yes installous is a very high feature, it isnt exactly the only thing useful. There are many features that could be added by Apple, but again they just dont care. Just the small tweaks of having notifications on your toolbar when you get a text, mail, or VM. Having the REAL weather on your weather icon. 5 icons at the bottom for your dock. Custom ringtones. NES games and other emulators.

I would never go back to having a stock iPhone.. its boring.

100 bucks sounds like a scam to me...you can jailbreak the phone by yourself, check the previous link for the dev-team

A 8gb 3g iphone can be had for 250 and up, depending on condition and where you live-check craigslist

you don't need to jailbreak to have custom ringtones. you can make them in about 30 seconds from any mp3 file using itunes.

For freeeeeeee? No.

I use DiskAid to put files on my iPhone and make my own ringtones. But for the general lazy person, jailbroke = better than having to use iTunes. At one point iTunes made you pay for this feature, not sure if they do anymore.

Along w/ the ringtones, you can have custom SMS tones, Mail, Lock sounds, etc, etc. You get way more out of jailbreaking. But if you like having the boring cookie cutter of a phone, thats fine.
