Not with a touchscreen... Maybe if I were to just take a mouse apart and just attach a external button to the right click and mount it on the dash.
I still have to fabricate a switch plate to block off the center vents, and I'm gonna glue some black fleece to the headliner (gray one is not gray anymore.), then Install the tweeters.
In the next few months I'm going to add in the 2 9" wide screen sun visor replacements. I still think they will be the best add-on monitors. Fold them up and no one sees them. Fold the drivers down, put the GPS on it, and it's as close to a GPS HUD as I could think of.
Are you able to comfortably reach every section of the touchscreen from the driver's seat? That's the only thing I can think of that would be a concern. That and the shifter getting in the way.
It's almost done now.. I have to install my tweeters, and just make a plate to block off 1 of the center vents for some switches. I has been running perfectly for 2 weeks. I can reach the screen without any problem. I don't sit ghetto, and I'm a small guy. I did have a problem with my WiFi adapter, but the problem is that the card i bought is junk. A everyday WiFi card has about 25-50mw output. No good for a car, maybe you will get 50' range, so, I bought a 500mw 802.11b/g adapter and a magnet mount +9db gain antenna. I could get a mile or 2 with that one.
Nice job. well thought out. I have some comments, but I don't really want to pick at your install. I been in & out of the 12V business for over 20 years. the last job I had was repairing mobile computers for military & police vehicles. So I have had more than my fair share of mobile computing installs.
That does not make me an expert, but I did have to help install & repair 75 mobile computers in cop cars down in Florida in 1 week... Anyway one question was how do you have the hard drives mounted? We found out through our testing (shock & vib) that the drives we not holding up during shock testing. We added a foam cushion to some of the drives (custom anti-shock foam of course) & a sorbotane bushing on a floating mount.
I don't think I have any of the mounts left but I think I might still have some of the bushings somewhere in my garage. PM me if you are interested.
As for my car (PTGT), if I ever find the time I have a mobile computer & a couple of touch screens to install for my setup. One is a 10" touch screen which is dedicated to the mobile pc, the other is a 5" touch screen used for A/V switching & video feed for a home theater setup.
If I ever get this project off the ground, I'll install the small touch screen in the dash & the 10" in the rear of the car. The PC is the size of a loaf of bread & has a 1.1G PIII in it. The HD is removable & it has 2 cardbuss connectors. The only drawback is there is no optital drive for it, so I would have to use USB or cardbuss adapter to connect one up. But with USB drives getting to be 4G & larger, CD's might just be a waste of time & space now.
The company I work for now, I could get a Aopen mini PC to install. That would fit in my under seat storage box & still have room left over to store some stuff, too.
Anyway, you got some real talent there, just watch how the HD's take the shock & vib. The most damage we have seen to the drives is when the system is accessing the data when you hit a bump or pothole. I have seen the system crash so bad that there was nothing left to recover & the drive had to be replaced.

That things coming along nicely, looks awsome. I was planning something similar but not quite that large of scale. Glad to see you did not use Windows Vista. I would probably have compatability problems with something and shut the car down for good. Or every time you try to crank your car a window would pop up saying "An application is trying to start. If you would like to continue the program press here"

gr8flpt: I have the drives mounted vertically, they are also mounted on rubber to absorb vibration. I'm now running Windows XP Tablet Edition, I was thinking about Vista, but not enough software yet. So far I live in RI (Home of pot holes, and crappy roads), and not problems with the drives. Even the new 500Gb Sata2 drive.
