It's been done. Local guy has/had it with Blue tooth and wireless. Do a search for car-puter. The in dash looks awesome, but the case is huge and has no place in a car, Get a mini cube case. Dash really looks great though.

Not the whole computer, just the hard drive.
If you have sufficient vibration dampening, you should be fine.

What about the internals of the HD itself?

The trunk is going to have lots of wood and black carpet. the computer will be slid into a carpeted wooden enclosure mounted to the floor of the trunk, with my 10-3/4" Soundstream DaVinchi and my 3-4ch 500 Rockford Fosgate amps. :-)

The Hard 2 160Gb hard drives are mounted vertically and they are mounted on rubber bushings. The 2 40Gb hard drives are mounted horizontally, so they could suffer more damage, but they are still mounted on rubber, and as another precausion, they are RAID1.

So far it's set me back $1200... I'm prosepecting under $2000 after install. Not bad seeing as a TomTom is what, like $500+?

I'm 100% stripping the interior on sat, I have next week out of work to install this. I'm also gonna run a lot of unused wires for future upgrade. (a few cat-5 lines and a couple RCA's). Cat-5 is such usefull low voltage wire. :-) ...and I just upgraded my house to CAT-6, so, I now have like 400' of old cat-5e. :-D

Tonights pics.. :-D

I got one chip to fill on the right side towards the top of the screen. Also note that the buttons are still masked. thats not a rough strip.

Rear view night vision camera. (It mirrors the image behind the car to correct left and right)

$20 addon, I had to do it!

Keep giving feedback. Help me think of speed bumps.
Thanks Guys!

thats pretty sick dude...I think it would be better if you did it in a suv so you could have more room, but still pretty sick. Make sure you post pics of the computer mounted.

Where did you get the camera?

You guy are making me so motivated to go out and work harder on this. It sucks that yesterday was raining, so, no work, and today is my birthday, so, I don't think my girl will let me play with the car tonight. Check in this weekend. I will be out there almost all weekend/week installing things. :-D

I should still be available to chat though.
Thank You again guys!

Tonights project: Rear window defrost switch. I needed to get rid of it, so, what do you do? I still want the timer. I like to keep the cars factory wiring where ever I can.

Resolution: Just relocate the button and l.e.d. inside the defrost switch assembly. This is one of the easiest jobs I've done yet. I have not picked out the switches yet, so I'm only working on converting the defrost switch to accept a remotely mounted momentary button, and standard l.e.d. of my choice. :-D

Keep watching this thread for more.. The weekend is coming up!
