Default digital boost gauge not reading right???

So I decided to up grade my stock boost gauge to a Autometer Digital boost/vac guage. hooked it up and turned it on and let it do calibrate it self and then let it run. I noticed that it was only sitting at -12 on the vac side so i decided to take it for a run and see what it would boost. I had it set to 17 on my stock gauge but when i floored it the gauge read 25 psi which i know isnt right. so has anyone else had a problem like this? or do you have any ideas how i can fix this?
Thanks
