Default Custom fabricated sub enclosure (pics)

Ok so i dont like the original design of the factory sub enclosure + mine didnt come with one and im not paying $$$ for that ugly ass thing, so i spent about a week and 60$(including speaker) to build my own, i could have platered it, could have fiber glassed one up, hell even bondo... but i work differently than most, after ALOT of studying on how to build boxxes (ive built many in the past) but i wanted to get this one up to air space dampen code., so i decided to replicate particle board, only mine is MUCH more dence, only 3/8' thick and the entire box weighs 1.1 pounds (yeah thats right) and the walls are dence enough that no matter what speaker/or amp they will not reverbarate, the enterior volume is exact minumum for a 10'' speaker which i ended up with 1.3cubic feet. anyway, all i have hooked up is a 120 watt amp (tests were done with a 750watt bridged alpine) it sounds awsome with the 60 watts its getting, i will go bigger as soon as my wallet does the same., my buddy has a 12'' pioneer with a 750 watt amp, his is slightly louder than mine with the 60 watt, but when i used his amp, my 10'' blew his 12'' AWAY! everone was suprised at the sound it produces, nough chat heres the pics.., oh and the box is perfectly form fitted the the stock box location, and is eaisly removable for servicing., and i sprayed the box with a secret sealer (thats why its black before i carpeted it)

well ????

I always say, why pay $$$ for an ugly ass thing, when you can build your own...

I know you're proud of your box, but in all honesty, It doesn't look very nice. Just my opinion though...

Oh man everybody's an installer these days....that think looks horrable and I cant see it lasting to long MDF wood stays together by being pressed with tons of force. If you dropped that box it would crumble and the Acoustics would be shitty too...

With all the work you put into it you could have made a fiberglass box like this

ding ding ding ding. You won the prize!!!! The wood machine shop that I get all of my supplies from also makes some of their own custom sized pieces of wood. When they glue MDF the whole mix is completely blended then pressed in a 100 ton press. According to them their press is marginal even at that pressure. Besides, in order for an enclosure to work at it's optimum performance it needs to be EXTREMELY RIDGID. Tightbond is very dependant on the humity in the air so some days it may be hard but the next it'll be soft. If that sub was something special like a W7 it'd had blown it apart the first time you cranked it.

One thing you do have going for you is that with no part of that box being equal the standing waves probably won't cancel each other out (if there can even be any in that box).

Thumbs up for doing it yourself and having the guts to post pic's.

I am working on a design to put the sub in the spare tire well. I did that on my stratus R/T coupe and loved the results. Only difference is that I might not be able to keep the spare in the srt-4 like I did the coupe. It has a full size 17" spare so I just turned the rim upside down and fiberglassed it.

ponch that is a CLEAN box. nice job
