Default couple audio ?'s, yes im a noob

i have an 04 srt4 without the kicker livin loud stereo, do i have a 6 disk changer then or do only the kicker have it? And, if i can, is it possible to hook up say a totally aftermarket stereo (not a kicker livin loud set-up, say two tens and an amp) to my stock head unit or can it not handle/wire up to even make it possible? I'd appreciate any help i can get, sorry if this is a repost or a stupid question but i would like a straight answer so i can go ahead with stereo plans... thanks

you can hook up your amp and subs to the stock hu you just need a line out converter. if you have a cd changer it will be at the bottom of your center console.

just go to your car to see if you have a cd changer - it is really hard for us to see that from where we are...

Are you asking if you have the unit in the car, or whether you can attach the 6 CD Changer to the stock head unit? The CD changer on my Kicker system sits directly below the rear defogger switch in the centre console. You can not miss it as it has six buttons and LED's which light up (it's recessed from the front of the console). As to mounting this unit or another CD Changer to the stock head, someone else would need to answer that.

ok thanks, well then no i dont have the 6 disk changer and no i do not want one haha. Thanks for all your input. I just wanted to know how to hook up aftermarket subs and amp to my stock head unit which is NOT the kicker sound system. So now knowing that, where would my line out converter be on my head unit??

Line output convertor is a seperate piece you will have to buy. It takes the high level output going to your speakers and turns it into an RCA output. Some amps also accept high level input too so you wouldn't really need the line output convertor

ok, im following you so far, but now where on my head unit would i connect the line out converter if i ended up using one? Is there a spot to plug in/splice one in? Does anyone have any pics in which i could look at to see more specifically?

Usually a line out converter is spliced into the rear speaker wires. That way the RCA's are closer to the amp in the trunk.

i honestly can't tell you why but every time i have ever seen a L.O.C. installed it has been as close to the hu as possible, not at the speaker.

That makes more sense - cause it is better to send the high power speaker signal through the wire.

Either way is fine, the only thing that changes is the length of RCA you use.
