Default Carputer Arrived!

I talked with CarolinaAutobody here in Sumter right next door to Macon-Moore about modifying my dash bezel to fit a double DIN. Cant wait for this to be installed! They will more than likely fabricate a fiberglass bezel out of the stocker, I wonder what color it should be, black, matched to exterior, silver(stock), chrome? Anyways, here are pics:

Decent cases, both are metal cased, rigid, and not to heavy. Ill get pics of the screen shortly. Good solid connectors on the wires. It looks like I picked out a good system. Now, just to install it, test it out and see how she operates. I wonder, should I get satellite net capability? Maybe.....GPS and Sat Radio are ok for now.

how much did it run you? I am thinking about getting a set up for my car so that I can run the AEM EMS on it as well as enjoy having a video camera set up for security and when I am having fun. Plus I figure it makes a kick ass mp3 player lol

Does that particular carputer from Lilliput have a built in AM/FM stereo receiver and amplifier built into to take the place of your stock reciever? That is one of my main sticking points of doing a carputer setup. For most of them you have to keep your stock reciever. The only one that I have seen that includes those features is this one:

http://www.karputer.co.uk/karputer.php?page=icepac2

The other things that kind of hold me back besides the price of it is the fear that it will get stolen.

If you are referring to mine, yes it is the 2nd Gen Lilliput 7" LCD Touch Screen. I don't have my setup anymore, sold it to a forum member year or so ago. I built and installed everything myself including the HVAC bezel couple years ago.

The monitor itself has the tuner in it, not the pc unit. And it is amplified out just like a normal deck. Total incl. shipping was just over a grand. Im not worried about theft, it doesnt look like a flashy deck to steal when installed, and I have a garage, and my car is in it all the time.

Eh, its low end stuff compared to the $1000 screens, but its a starting point.

I don't want to burst your bubble, but I looked at reviews for this screen and they don't speak highly of it. I also didn't look at the dates of the reviews, so whatever their gripes were might be fixed by now.

I hope you have one that wasn't built on a Monday.

Keep us updated on the install.

Thumbs up

I'm sorry, I may be mistaken, but whats to modify?

It seems like you have a flip out screen out screen there - I think i had the same one if not similar, you should be able to fit that in with a simple carkit radio adapter from your local electronics store.

my system was running off the ebay flip screen last year, but i didnt like the positioning of it and found that sometimes glare was a problem since I couldnt tilt it towards me. I'm now running a Xenarc 700tsv mated with the stock deck - with deck controls going into my mac mini for volume/next and previous track/ ffw and rewind/ and playlist setup (using CD-changer input). this way i dont lose my AM/FM and quick cd capabilities, and since the computer is mounted right under the dash, i can still input DVDs etc without hassle. all together cost me around the same as you.

What kind of GPS solution are you using? what kind of software will you be running? Interested to know how this goes! keep us updated
