Default Aftermarket Alarm/Remote Start

I remember reading a thread back when I first joined that had all of the different things a person would need to buy when having an aftermarket alarm installed. If someone could point me to it that would be awesome. a simple search for "alarm" netted me 15 pages of threads and none that seemed to be right.

I have an 05 and I will be purchasing a compustar remote start alarm. But I dont want to take it to someone to install and they start trying to sell me shit I dont need. I dont do alarms and dont know anyone that I trust to do one around town so I am taking it to the shop in town that has been in buisness the longest with the best reputation.

Their prices are high, but they do good work and they arent going anywhere. I would rather buy everything I need online and take it to them with all parts and just pay for the install.

You will just need a bypass module on top of the Compustar piece.

Best piece to use is the Idatalink module which is actually made to work with the Compustar.

So I need this module, but I have to go and get a second key from the dealer. I was hoping to get around that.

Well with that module it looks like you don't need a second key. Especially with the price being that high.

I called tech support, they said I need a second key but dont have to relinquish the key it is just used for programming. i will talk to my installer.

Dodge only wants $100 for a new key and to program it. Ive wanted a spare since I bought the car anyway.

Yeah 2 keys are needed to get into the programming mode in Dodge's to program a 3rd key. The tech support from idata is great and the tech guys actually know what they are talking about unlike some places that just read possible solutions from their computer screen.

They may be reluctant to install a remote start on a manual cars. Even if the remote start system is designed for a manual car, like CompuStar.

I went through a pretty bad run around trying to find a place to do mine. The conversation with head tech at a licensed CompuStar dealer went something like this:

"Hey I'd be interested in this alarm/remote start for my car"
"Alright what kind of car?"
"Dodge SRT-4"
"Is that a manual?"
"Yes"
"Sorry don't do remote starts on manual cars. Liability reasons."
"... You do know that CompuStar deals remote starts designed for manual cars right?"
"Sorry, liability."

Yes you can use it with a Viper alarm/starter combo. The only thing you have to remember is that the Blade modules are for Compustar ONLY. You will just use a CH3 module for the srt-4.

I am going to be switching to a compustar from viper this fall and going to hook up the remote start. Easy for me since i'm an installer and do it myself lol

you dont already have 2 keys? If you do, its way cheaper to guy a key off ebay(like 15 bucks) and have a locksmith/key person cut the key. Then follow the how-to guide for pairing the key with your car.

But if you only have one key, I guess you have to buy it from the dealer

Then you will have to go to the dealer to get a second key programmed. You can't even add the bbypass module unless you have 2 keys to enter programming mode for another key
