Default 10" Sub Suggestions

I've been checking the threads for suggestions and I'd like to consolidate you guys' opinions. I have approx 0.65 cu ft to work with and I'd like to keep the price under $200.00. I read in this thread Decent system? posts #5 & 6 about decent quality equipment at inexpensive prices (not necessarily CHEAP). I've looked at JL Audio as I'm a fan but if I could get just as good or better for less $$$, I'm willing to give it a try. I'll probably get one of the Orion amps from caraudiodomain but the Elemental Designs amps don't look bad either. I'd like your suggestions on the sub, given the spex and $$$ limit above and on the amp given the 2 brands listed. If there's better quality amps for less $$$, please feel free to list them as well. I know this is rather vague but trust me when I say I value you all's opinions. I've been researching this for some time now. I'd planned on using my JL 12W7 but have backed away from that idea due to weight, cost, space, and power requirements. I want some clean DEEP bass. It doesn't have to hit hard, just go DEEP!!! Did I mention I'm a bass head and I love DEEP BASS? Thanx in advance for your opinions and have fun with this one. I'm sure some of you will.

Respectfully,
Ken

I don't know of a 10" speaker that gives real good deep bass in a small box like that.. when building boxes I've normally found that bigger boxes give deeper bass, especially true with ported boxes. seems to me if you like DEEEP bass you're gonna need a bigger ported box tuned to a low frequency... I know that's not what you were asking for just my two cents, hope it's some help

I agree 100%! The only reason I didn't mention ported enclosures is due to my 12W7. It hit SO DEEP in just a sealed enclosure! I'd LOVE to hear it in a ported enclosure, just not in my SRT-4 (lol)! If I could get away with something as impressive, that's what I desire. I'd like to have a trunk but if that's what I have to sacrifice, it's time to get another vehicle (lol)! Thanx again for your opinion and keep'em coming.

Respectfully,
Ken

there are three main characteristics of a subwoofer system:

1) it plays low
2) it's efficient
3) it's small

pick 2.

seriously, if you want good deep bass in that kind of volume, a brahma 10 and around 1k watts is what you need. but that doesn't fit your budget. the only easy way to get good low frequency bass without a seriously inefficient sub is with a larger sub in a large enclosure.

Yep, everyone's right. You either need serious power for a small enclosure or less power for a larger or ported enclosure. Just look at the specs on the subs you think you want and see what kind of space you want to give up. I was in the same spot you are in so that's why I picked what I did.

Personally I am also a JL fan, but for this car i didnt want such an expensive setup. I wanted something that would hit decent and not break the bank as well as weigh down my car with a huge box, I also didnt want to have to use alot of watts. So for all those reasons i chose the 10" Sony xplod single voice coil 4ohm sub,and the Sony 2100 gtx amp. The sub is capable of about 300 rms at 4ohms and the amp pushes 250 rms at 4ohms bridged. Now you probably know that sealed boxes need more power so 250 is more than efficient, but sub is much louder in ported box. I know that alot of people think Sony has fallen off the horse a little, but in this case i dont think so. This sub provides good deep bass and adheres to all types of music well. The damage for this low cost venture was $60 for the sub(Walmart) and in between $150 and $200for the amp(ebay) depending on where you get it, but that is just my take on your situation.

Thanx for the responses. I've got some decisions to make. I don't wanna give up a lotta trunk space but I do want that nice deep crisp sound. Thanx again for all of your input. Any further comments are welcomed.

Given what you have said, I'd look into a decent 12" that can work well in a smaller, ported encosure. That way you'll get the best of both worlds.

solobarics work best in HUGE ported enclosures. and there are plenty of 12's out there that will blow away the L7 12's, let alone the L7 10's.

got wake, would you suggest a few 12" subs that might work with given the listed parameters?

Thanx,
Ken

none. you need more air space to get deep bass, not to mention a higher budget.
