Nikon D40 w/ 55/200 a/f v/r lens. As for the zoom, it was a small bat and he was hanging from the ceiling. How else do you get a shot looking straight at the bats face, when he is hanging 10' up on the ceiling? I could have had a 500mm zoom, and it still wouldn't have helped me get up to it's level.
Hah, thats pretty cool. Would like more Depth of field.. but I know.. you work with what you got.
Did he move around any?
Not much...After about 5 minutes, it started moving it's head to look at me. Of course, I kept getting off the ladder and creeping it closer to try to get a better shot...I think it was starting to get a little "uncomfortable" with my snooping, so I gave up and let it be. Figured I had to have an acceptable pic or two. I wanted to get a better DOF, but I was afraid that working on the ladder and hand holding, while trying not to spook it was going to be difficult. I figured I better keep to the open aperture and keep to the faster shutter speed. The thing was really small(about the size of a mouse), so I had the zoom pretty much maxed out, and my hand holding skills aren't that great to begin with.
Somebody's seen too many horror films involving bats!
j/k...my co-worker laughed at me for putting on a windbreaker jacket, when I went to shoot the pics. I told him I wasn't afraid of the bat biting me, I was afraid of the rabies treatment I would have needed afterwards. LOL! I was a bit surprised, it wasn't as scary or imposing as I expected, when the guys told me about the bat in the hallway...of course, that could be because this one was only about the size of a mouse.
