Why are VIN's required for FS posts?

As the title states. I thought it wasnt a good thing to openly post car's VIN numbers in public (moreso the internet).

This is why most sites such as Ebay requires a VIN to post a car for sale.

It is a measure we put in place to help cut down on scammers. It doesn't compromise security, and helps perspective buyers to check up on the car/parts before buying. I doubt any of us want to buy parts from a stolen SRT-4. A logical step IMO.
