Default read if you own aerforce gauge!

hey guys i've got one of those aeroforce gauges now i just would like to know how the knock works?... what is a normal reading at WOT? im getting like 2.0-3.5 (this is in the winter weathers too so i suppose in the summer its going to be worse)? is this normal whats the threshold before making any damage?

whats average and whats bad?...

as well getting alot of white frost on my plugs... but im running super rich? 10.1 at WOT on my A/F... if im not mistaking white frost on the plugs means that your running lean? RIGHT?

i would appreciate your opinions and thoughts on this! thx

I've got one to so already looked into this, 2.5-3.5 knock retard means your running lean. optimum knock is 0.0. I only get those kinds of readings though when I use 91 octane with 24 psi of boost. ( I was trying to setup my new WGA)

And I will only get it in third gear. They say 3rd gear runs the leanest for some reason. Now just because I said 0.0 knock is best it is proably impossible to get 0.0 through all gears all the time some is not dangerous like up to 2.0 I think. All this tells you is not that you are going to cause damage just that you may so the PCM will start to pull timing which in the long run slows you down.

Are you running anything else to lean out that Stage 2, like a wastegate? I've got Stage 2 and I would get those knock values when running 94 octane and HOM in the summer, and that was only on hot days. All other times it used to be 0.

Maybe the super cold air is causing a lean condition? I haven't been watching knock lately, but I'm gonna try some highway pulls and check what readings I get.

you should not be seeing any knock at WOT.

could be:

1) bad gas (not high enough octane)
2) fuel pump on its way out
3) knock sensor needs to be replaced

thats all i can think of, off the top of my head. someone who is better with car stuff, might offer a better reply.

Knock should be 0. Let the ECU control boost and put 94 in and see if it stays at 0.

Then re-introduce any boost control etc. Don't know what mine is in the winter cause car is parked and I didn't have the gauge last winter.

Ive done A TON of dataloggin with my gauge and different octanes and temperratures.

Summer

Boost 24-16psi
Gas 94 sunoco
Knock 0 in everygear

Winter:
Boost: Same
Gas: Same
Knock: 6kr @redline ( reason.. had to raise my fuel pressure from 47psi to 53psi @ 1:1 ratio)

OH btw.. forgot to mention that Water injection was used in these situtations, 50/50 mix.

thanks for your opinons guys ... now i think it might be the wastegate... im not using any boost controllers (forgot to mention that) ... the only thing i can think of is the wastegate.. i just bought it and slapped it on without adjusting simply because didnt know if it needed to be setup or not ...

i use 94 most of the time and i see knock even with 94...

with the wastegate how should i adjust it? what am i looking for? like i hold boost pretty well for example 3rd gear wot im holding 15psi... in the summer i spike 19 hold 17... i remember it clearly... and again this is all stage 2 ecu controlled....

If your plugs are white, then you DEF. have a lean condition., my knock reading on my Aeroforce never reads above 0

I am just curious Turbolag, how you get 0 knock retard. I am just asking cause most guys spike at 18-19 and hols at 15-16. I'm wondering how you are losing so much psi after your spike and not running lean. You are bleeding off like 9 psi from your spike, I've never heard of such a drop from boost spike to boost hold psi. I'm curious on how you could get no knock and have a good A/F with that kind of difference. If you are not running lean in your spike you but be running pretty rich when your boost settles and holds @ 16. Let me know anyway I'm just curious.
