My opinion is don't buy it yet unless you have a BIG downpayment. Wait until you're in college and see what your money situation is really like. Only thing worse than crashing the car is having to sell it cause you can't afford it. Gas is expensive, mods are expensive, oil changes expensive, maintenence expensive and it's the third highest car too insure in North America. Car will still be here in a year and there are def a few low km ones around.

i have a 3000 downpayment ...i just want a new car im tired of driving the stupid cavalier ..i want somthing new
buy a car private party, dealerships alway rip people off. 25000 is alot, you could find the same car private party for 17000 or so.

i make $2600 a month right now and i only have $1000 in bills and rent right now so that mean i have $1600 a month left after bills ....my school cost only 7000$ for two years so.....i figure i can afford it
brand new, i paid only slightly more than that, and my payments are not that high either!...just to give you an idea of how much that is not a bargain!...however, 17K kms is quite low
if you have some money coming in, why not save it over the winter, then go with a private purchase later, like in the early spring...
...you'll have saved money, and will ultimately be far happier with your purchase!

i was planning to wait to late january to purchase one but then i came across this one ..the pervious owner was a doctor and his wife ..the car is great condition ....ok here is the situation ...i have a 5000$ line of credit i still owe...now the dealership will give me $2000 for my shitty cavalier ..and ill put that against the $5000 that leaves me $3000 owing ..the dealship will then pay off that 3000$ and add it to the total of the cavalier ...now the finace guy at the dealership calculated it for me without adding the $3000 my monthly payments are 417$ a months with the $3000 it 480$ a month so to me thats not much of a difference...
i knows patience is a virtue but ive waited allready 2years ... i cant take it anymore hehe
go see a bank, get your parents to co-sign, and do the payments byweekly should save you some money... also thats kinda expensive, mine was ladee owned, 20 000 on it and i got it for 21000....

also I actually drove a cobalt ss/sc and the car was actually pretty nice. The car isn't as fast as my car but it had a nice interior if that's what you want.
Hey buddy. I know what your thinking... The car is great, not too expensive, and I have some money available. If you've been in the car once or twice, then you're hooked... That's what got me.
Here's my 2 cents; I was always into honda's before, and when the time came up to change, the only great deal on the market was the srt4. I picked up an 04, with 0% finance, YES, 0% finance. Because it was like the last 04 left in all of Ottawa. I put 5k down, and was into the car for under 450$CDN. And bang for the buck, that thing was pretty fast, and put my hondas to shame. So for the price, and what performance I got for each $, I jumped on it.
Since I use my car for work everyday (I work in ER response for disasters like fires/floods/trauma losses, so I'm always on the road) , I rack up the kms in no time, so I switch cars pretty often...
Anyhow, I was looking at getting another srt4 recently, used, trade in my other one and it just didn't make any sense to start over another 5 year payment schedule, and put another down payment, and pay over 7% interest. It was like over 600$/month, and almost into 6 years if memory serves me right. Plus I would have to transfer all the toys over to the other car. So my advise is, try to find a car you want, but really research the financial burden it will have on your wallet, and make sure you get something you won't get sick of either. And at the time you get it, make sure it gives you the value you are looking for too.
I know the new cars coming out on the market are getting pretty cheap in cost -as opposed to maybe buying used (like watch for 0% offers) and getting more and more power, like the new srt4 coming out late this year. ( i know it's not too pretty) I would just hate for you to pay more than 600$ on this car for the next 5-6-7 years, and finding out that you suddenly feel the urge that we all do, to make it look better/different, and make it go as fast as the other guy you just saw. Or, you see something new on the market, and you're stuck with your ride and your loan. Five years is a long time you know... Where were you 5 years ago?
As one guy told me once, Boost is very addictive... But at the time I just got my car, and I was like, whatever dude. But here we are a year later, and sure enough, I'm getting into more and more... And it never stops, you always want something else.
Make sure you also consider the price of your tires (almost 2 for each summer if you drive hard), winter tires (yes you'll need those too, and rims). You can save $$ by getting the rubber in the states, but still, it can get pretty expensive very fast.
Also this car takes super (91-94 Octane), so make sure you factor that additional cost for fuel, and remember this car isn't the most fuel efficient car around... (i'm getting like 250km to the 35L tank) Highway is more, and maybe the other guys are etching out more mileage, I'm not sure.
Good luck, and hopefully you've learned something useful. It's a great car, fun to drive, and also remember some people are going to start hating you... Lol, yeah, it's a neon.
