First let me start by saying thanks to all that voted in this month’s SRT of the month. This poll would not be as big as it is without you all. Also big thanks to those responsible for creating and setting up the poll every month. It was not an easy month, and all off the nominees brought something special to the table. Let me also extend my regards to N2MB for giving us outstanding performance products along with expert knowledge and advice. Also, fine job by the “bump” crew who kept this poll alive.
For those who don’t know me, my name is Bill and I’m 25 years old. The name “whyconform” comes from when I had my first car, a Saturn SC2. I modified that thing like crazy, and due to the unconventional make/model, I chose “whyconform”as a username and stuck with it over the years. I remember being 19 and seeing the SRT-4 for the first time outside my old job. I then decided that’s what I want. I purchased my Eblue with 1.8 miles in July 04 with the intentions to keep it stock. Yes, I was supposed to keep it stock.
Well….within three months I started out doing what most did. I had HIDs, eyelids, Stage 1, and a BOV. After a while, the fan base started growing, and between the vendors on SRTforums and going to SRT meets I started to get the mod bug once again. I was never big into racing the car because at the time it was my daily and I could not afford to break it but I did manage to get to the track a few times and get the car into the low 13’s.
Fast forward now to 2006 when I decided to break down and buy Stage 3 with toys. It’s ironic that N2MB is the sponsor this month because they were the ones that installed my Stage 3(Jay’s the man). If he was not local, I probably would still be on the stock turbo. That year car was still relatively stock on the outside (the whole black stockers thing). That’s when I was also introduced to a local buddy doing the show scene. He convinced me to be in a show being I washed it every week and from then on I was hooked. I realized having a quick car is nice, but I felt the need to make the exterior look better and different from the rest. This is when I started buying all the aftermarket parts for my car. I relied on buying used parts to save money, and by the end of the season, the car was starting to look the part.
To keep this short, let’s just say the car’s been through a lot. I’ve had 3 intakes, 3 sets of wheels, 2 downpipes, 2 sets of eyelids, and 2 different sets of headlights. But you know what? I’m still on my stock clutch with 60k!!! I’ve been to over 50 car shows and won various trophies. To me it’s more fun to cruise around and turn heads than to beat on the car day in and day out. I love to watch people compliment the car at shows and that’s why the car is a never ending project. It is thankfully paid off now and not my daily, which is why now it is rocking a see through hood. Future modifications will include some sort of aftermarket seats, coilovers, and a clean stereo install. And after that’s done I’m sure something else will pop up. I still get the urge to slap slicks on it and get that 11 second pass though, so we’ll see.
