Default Trinity Cables Are JUNK

This is just an FYI to those of you thinking of getting a Trinity. I have had a Predator since they came out and had no problems, then I sold it and got a Trinity. Upon getting the Trinity I went to my laptop and flashed my custom tunes to it, then took it to the car and proceeded to flash the car. The VERY first time flashing the car it lost connection mid-write..which as many of you know causes loss of all your tunes currently on the handheld...then it makes you restore your default map. That's not a huge problem when you're sitting in your driveway and have access to your laptop but when you're out in the field and you have 750s, etc. they don't like to idle or do really anything with a rescale. Also, several times I was unable to keep a connection to even restore the stock tune, which prevents the car from starting as the PCM has no map to run...this left me temporarily stranded several times. I then proceeded to contact Diablosport(they suck at answering phones btw) and finally got them to send a new cable out. They supposedly shipped it last Monday and I just received it yesterday. I would have thought maybe they could have sent it faster than ground just because I've been unable to tune my car for a week and a half. Anyway, I didn't want to post anything negative about Diablosport as they make some great products, but to knowingly ship out defective cables for a $600-$800 tuning device is irresponsible. Personally, I would at least send the distributors a bundle of updated cables. So, this is just an FYI to all potential Trinity owners. Oh and BTW, the cable I received yesterday works intermittently also...

Yes, the cables are a complete pain in the ass, and I have no idea why DiabloSport doesn't fix it. But, you can get the cable to seat you just have to apply a lot of pressure.

They supposedly came out with a new cable that doesn't have the bad connection. Do you have any more details on how to "seat" the cable? I'd really like to know.

I had to make a small "adjustment" to my New cable's connector for it to clip in securely. All I did was take a small file and removed about .1" plastic from around the connector base. The connector base is hitting the Trinity enclosure before both snaps can clip in. Removing just a small amount of material is all it took. It took about 3 minutes. DON'T touch the metal parts of the connector.

So $600 doesn't get you a decent cable?

Interesting.

Thanks guys, I will look into doing that when I get home. I knew it was something on the ipod connector end, jus thought it was internal. And no, 600 gets you a shit cable.

Well, in all fairness the new cable itself isn't bad, it is the molding on the Trinity that is the problem.

Yes or the cable header on the ciruit board needs to be .1 closer to the enclosure's exterior.

I'm kindof irritated because when I asked specifically what was wrong with the cable the guy just side-stepped my question and proceeded to get my shipping info...WTF?

Do you have any pics of this mod?

I believe this is what duster is talking about. I went a different route and used a razor blade to remove plastic from the body of the Trinity where the connector goes in. I could take a picture tonight if you want.

I hear what you are saying, but does it really even matter what was wrong other than the first design didn't work?

It does matter when I want to fix it. If its a bad connection I considered stripping back the insulation and fixing it. Now I know, and thanks for the pic
