Default My first tune on stock car with NEWB driver.

I bought a dsp since I read that it does so much to a vehicle and can make a big difference if I ever go the route of throwing an exhaust intake FMIC on my car. Today I decided to try a few things out and need some feed back on whether or not I should have done this at all, or I should change anything.

First off, I tuned the performance tune at the 1-2 2-3k range to 50% minus boost. I did this for the very rare occasion that I might do a jack rabit start and go WOT, just for the sake of not spinning out ( yes I have motor mounts, they are sitting very happily in my closet lol) for the 3-4k I set to just minus 25% boost. For the most part I keep my RPM under 2k for around the town driving, but if I need to get around someone I will step on it and go. Now for the 4-5k range I set to PLUS 20% boost. This is when I am on the highway and need to pass or get in a hurry. Now to go along with the positive change in boost I added 10% more fuel for that range only ( I did not change fuel in the other ranges) Also I changed all of my fan controls to come on at 200 degrees F. This seems to be where my car sits on under normal driving conditions and thought maybe having it on all the time it would keep the motor running cooler.

I tested this setup and the boost stayed at around 10-11 psi up till 3k range where it went to about 13-14 then at 4-5k it spiked about 17 psi.

I am a total nub when it comes to this thing but wanted to grow some balls and try it out, any feedback or suggetions would be appreciated.

Playing around like this with different boost settings is perfectly fine and if you like how it drives go for it.

1) The PCM limits boost under 30mph already so your -50% down low probably isn't doing much but its not hurting anything either.

2) I probably would have kept the 3k-4k boost at 0%.

3) Get used to datalogging your changes to see their effect in a less chaotic enivroment than during the run.

4) Your +10% fuel probably isn't needed but use your datalog to pin point where you might need fuel, if at all. Since you don't have a wide band(strongly reccomended before any other mod) use Knock as the guide as to where to add fuel.

quick question about this. I'm always hearing about having to worry about knock with using the dsp on a stockish car. For the 2 months Ive had my srt, ive been using my wideband to know when to add fuel at what rpms, and have NEVER ONCE seeb ANY type of knock on my scangauge! Is it possible I have a bad sensor or something? All it has ever said is 0 for lt and st knock. And Idk how to tune! haha. What do u think?

Log with a DSP and you'll probably see some knock. Several times guys have mentioned seening 0 Kr on a pos gauge but once they log,,,,,there's knock. Wether it has todo with poor response from the guage or they're just not seeing it while trying to drive, who knows? imo its probably a little of both.

I think trying to eyeball a guage, any guage, while driving is a joke, if thats what you're trying to use to tune. I record all my data to review later. The only guage I watch while tuning is the Tach.
