Well i hope it works-i also bought one step colder plugs Vpowers NKG 4306-i figure maybe help prevent knock-my car is lightly modded, i have a LC-1 wideband on the way and a oil pressure guage. i did buy it from pt-performace as they had the best price and a usb cable .
Maybe its just listed wrong on there web site-the girl there dosn't know anything-i will call them later-have you run the one step colder plugs> Do they get rid of the knocks with the dsp tune? they are one step colder-i see part number on pic.

i have yet to get the same plugs...just lazy. but don from diablo sport told me that they are basically 1 step colder and to try them first to help with knock before u try 2 step colder plugs. my buddy bought some and when we played with the 93 tune it helped. just my 2 cents
I canceled my dsp order because on nov 5 you get the 2 step colder irduim 3701 spark plugs free if you get a dsp,at least thats what i think they are given you-those are $30 plugs-not cheap ones.

They are one step cooler based on the design of the plug. There is a sticky here on the forums somewhere with a plug cut a part with the dimensions measured and they are in fact "one step cooler". These are the same plugs people have been using for the last 3 year with huge results. If you want the 2 step cooler ones, we have those as well.
As far as the girl knowing nothing, you bet. I am there as well as another to handle tech questions. The girls are there to pick up the phone, unlike other shops that never pick up the phone we hired "someone" to pick up the phone so you could either leave a message or find out answers your your most basic questions. The site states that they are one step cooler and they have been proven on the car as such. Hope this clears that up.

John,
Not trying to argue with you, because I am not well versed in the assembly of spark plugs, but why would NGK designate the 4306 as a "5" heat range then?
You guys are making too much out of this and are really splitting hairs.
1) There are a few more things influencing the heat range than the conduction path. The biggest one is the Heat transfer coefficients of the material used in the electrode, porcelin, shell and ground strap. I seriously doubt that NGK and Champion use EXACTLY the same material for all 4 parts. For this argument of the "NGKs are colder" to stick, ALL material used would have to be the same.
% of Cu in the center electrode is a big variance in spark plug brands and a large factor in its "heat range."
2)Even the Electrode diameter and shape make a difference. Since the NGK has a V cut into it, it has more surface area exposed to combustion heat. Technically, that tip will be "hotter", maybe the shorter conduction path makes up for this. don't know, don't care(see #4)
3) Heat ranges from different Brands often overlap one another or fall between each other's heat ranges. A NGK 5 might actually be between a 14-13 in Champion.
4) imo, if NGK and Champion both agree that a 4306 and RE14 are the same heat range, that's good enough for me. So get a colder plug than the reccomended stock heat range if your running +40whp over stock.
