Default Custom tune realistic HP gains?

Did a quick search and found no real answer. So I thought I'd open it up...

I'm curious as to what realistic HP gains one can expect using the stock 93 tune on a basic stock car and getting a custom tune. I'm talking without injector swaps and other upgrades, etc. Just a custom tune on a fairly stock set-up.

I'm just wondering if it's worth the $200-$300 one may need to spend with extensive dyno and tune time.

Are we talking 10, 20, 30 more horses above the 93 tune gains or what? Thanks in advance.

I have seen 30+ hp gains from multiple sources, by just plugging in the DSP and loading the 93 perf tune.

Elevation and temperature will obviously affect numbers....

I was not aware the numbers were that good, but what can one expect above that with a custom tune?

Depending on the competence of your tuner, i'd say easily 20whp.

Went from 290 WHP to 313 WHP with a custom tune.

We have seen big turbo cars pick up 50 to 70 WHP at redline simply because we can play with the timing a bit up top.

Stock turbo's can expect to see 20 to 30 WTQ gains and 10 to 15 WHP gains over what they are running now, if they are tuned. Untuned cars, well we have seen as much as 50 WHP gained with an injectors swap running on one of our tunes.

What about if you are not going with the 93 octane tune? I am in cali. and we don't have 93, so would I gain anything by going to the dsp and having a custom tune? I currently have agp wg, catted dp with cutout, and k&n cai.

i wouldnt expect a HUGE jump in power but a competant tuner should be able to get a global 10-20hp bump and a big jump in throttle responce, the stock ECU is EXTREAMLY forgiving of sub-par tuners so (great learning functions) so even an mmmmh OK tuner should get some good HP bumps but I doubt they would achive any throttle responce improvement

Yes and no, save you money on the custom tune and get WI installed on your car. Then you can install the 93 tune and play with it to get what you need dialed in. At this point in your mods a WI kit would go farther than a custom tune.

well i self tuned mine at a local dyno. Mods at the time, ic, exhaust intake and mbc. Baseline was 265hp 296tq...added some fuel, boost and timing tuned to 11.3-11.5 afr and was able to get 296 hp and 355lb ft. That was over 3 pulls my first time using a dsp. All tuning was done on the dsp and the mbc.

Those are pretty good numbers using just the handheld.
