This doesn't shed any light on the length of time but it does lend some insight that the selection process is more than a couple months. I suspect that Obama's name was submitted even before the elections:
I personally believe that he is a good speaker and talks with that damn Martin Luther King style voice. People get all wrapped up in how he speaks and not what he speaks. I really have no clue what this man did to deserve thus award. I'm stumped.

The nobel peace prize is often given some of the most bloodthirsty humans on the planet, like Henry Kissinger, Gorbachev, Arafat, Carter, etc. etc. Hitler was in the running for it, but him winning would be way over the top obvious so obviously he didn't, otherwise I'm sure they would have loved to give it to him.

He won the 'thanks for not being Bush' award from the rest of the world. Yes we know, Bush and the neo-conservative imperalists in his government made the world feel less safe, less stable.
It's insulting to the other candidates imo. Obama hasn't done enough to deserve this, we still have the patriot act, 2 wars (Afghanistan escalating), warrantless wiretaps, the patriot act.
US citizens still have less freedom compared to 10 years ago. 911 really made our government more authoritarian, more ruthless. He has stated some good intentions, but hasn't delivered. I do find it funny though how the left is now saying Obama hasn't done anywhere near enough for the left wing to be happy and the right is saying he has done far too much.
