They are a threat, and that threat will increase in multiple different stages.
The largest physical threat today is the fact we have quite a few military personnel with strike region. We also have 5th fleet (the admiral who controls the region) a stones throw away in Bahrain. We have ships that pass through the Straits of Hormuz all the time, and Iran likes to test them and swarm with small high speed boats in large numbers. They also have two Diesel Submarine Bases on either side, causing choke point issues.

Yes the have the capability to "threaten" us but the have no real ability to carry out that threat other than through the use of proxies such as hamas or other militant groups. Since I don't speak farsi or arabic I don't know what exactly he said, except for what our media reports. If you have experience with any foreign language you know that a direct translation is damn near impossible.
