Since we have a Representative Republic and we use elections to vote for people that represent us is the reason Obama is backing down. All he needs is a few more socialist voted in and he will have utopia in his radical change of our country. One more Supreme Court Justice that he controls would be topping on his cake.
Elections are coming up and he hopes the screaming people will forget how he has outraged the general population.
This nightmare of change is not over because half the people that vote don't know who or what they are voting for. They will vote for a populist every time.

That is true and it is all of our duty to make sure people dont forget about it during these 2010 elections. Turnout is normally low but if everyone thats pissed about the healthcare will remember this when its time to vote we can still make it. I think its time to flush the toilet in congress and remove ALL incumbents, they are way to comfortable and dont feel like they need to listen to us anymore.
The progressive caucus (aka the people that actually have a brain) in the House signed a statement saying that none of them will vote for a heatlh care bill that doesn't have the public option in it. If they all vote no, the bill won't pass the house.
I honestly think that Obama has handled this the wrong way, but he is starting to realize that Republicans don't really want reform at all. They just want to defeat Obama.
Look at Grassley for example. He was one of the people Obama cited for being decent about working out a compromise in the Senate. The very next day he spouts bullshit about "pulling the plug on grandma."
Obama should just tell the Republicans to shut the fuck up and just pass a Democratic bill with a strong public option. The senate can use reconciliation to get it passed with 51 votes. It will most certainly pass in the house since the progressive caucus will vote for it.
I think shortly after congress is back in session Obama will be changing his tune quite quickly and will get the public option through with additional guidance on his part (at least I hope he does).
If not, I will be VERY angry at Obama.
What I am NOT worried about, however, is the Democrats losing their majorities. They will most certainly hold on if you have seen the poll numbers I cited about the very few remaining red states.
