i agree some what...money has a lot to do with it..most people that buy a 50k+ car do so because they could easily afford it and not have to worry...my mom is like that, she could care less about how her car looks inside or out, but she can drive a $50k car easily...if someone is buying so that brand new loaded A6 for improving self image and is right at the limits of what they can afford i guarantee that they are going to be taking care of that car no matter how messy they are at other things
look at me, i could care less how messy i am but when it comes to my car i take care of it and even before i was a car guy i always loved washing my parents cars because i liked when they were clean
Lets rewind this back to said car in question, the 03 neon. Lets omit that I said $50k car and change that to $25k. According to what your saying, the reason this persons car is dirty is cause they can afford to just get another neon without it affecting there budget. Does this statement hold true pertaining to the 25k car also? You and your mom are only 2 people.
Mike, I definitely understand that and that is admirable. Your parents are hardworking and made something out of nothing. My parents came from Russia with NOTHING and they were very old (dad was early mid 50's and mom was low 40's) with no knowledge of English whatsoever. I respect my parents so much for being able to put my brother and me through school, through 12 years of piano lessons, through all the bullshit we gave them with wanting "cool" clothes and toys and shit.... My parents turned absolutely nothing into something, and I will forever be grateful to them. There is a difference between being taken care of and being given everything with no respect for anyone who helped.
Awesome!! So far that means it's me, Carlin, Ray, Bigwiggs....I'm sure Wiggy will come by!
That's great! It's interesting that it often takes an immigrant mentality to fully realize how great this country can be. The opportunity is there, it's just that a lot of us don't take advantage of it because we've become so lazy and complacent.

I think one of the key issues in this discussion is whether or not the person in question places any value in a car, regardless of retail price. Morgan's sister buys a brand new car every 4 years or so. Mind you, it's not because she "wants" a new car, but rather because she beats the fuckin' shit out of them, and then actually needs a new one. She buys the cheapest econobox that she can, not 50K cars. But still, even with a 50K car, I'm pretty sure she would destroy it as well. Some people just don't give a fuck about their cars. And to some extent, I can understand why. You spend a fortune on something that will eventually end up costing almost twice what the sticker says care of financing, only to have it be worth less than half of the initial retail price a scant five years later (and that's if you bought a car with high resale value). They are by no means an investment, yet they are the second highest expense for most folks behind their homes (which are a sound investment).

Shwiggy's sister is obviously harder on cars then most. But does she trade them in just cause of the interior being trashed? Thats what this is all about. If the car needs mechanical repairs priced more then the car is worth, thats understandable. I think to the other side of the spectrum on that note. It may not be a good investment, but why destroy what your putting your money into. If you don't plan on taking care of it then don't halfass it. Besides trashing the car, I wouldn't bother doing anything. Oil changes, cleaning, etc.
