Default Good Car Washes near Greenwood,IN or the Speedway?

Hey folks out in Indianapolis,

I'll be driving my new SRT-4 to see the US Grand Prix this weekend. Can any locals suggest a car wash near the Indianpolis Speedway or Greenwood, Indiana (my hotel is in Greenwood)? I want to be able to remove the bugs splatter myself so I'm also open to a self-coin operated carwash.

Thanks from the D.C./Virginia area.

There is one about one block from the speedway at the corner of Auburn and Crawfordsville Rd. called Dirt Stripper. It's a coin op/do it yourself place. IMHO those are the next safest thing to washing it by hand. If you go there keep an eye out for my truck. My buddy lives right next to this place and we usually hang there during the races.

I don't know too much about the Greenwood area carwashes.

Hope this helps.

Copy that, thanks for the 10-20. I'll be on the lookout for your truck - nice!! I figured I'd have to hand wash those bugs off.

Sorry, I don't know what 10-20 means. I'm a fireman, not a cop. I'm assuming it means info. Around here we call it... info.

I'm down here in Greenwood and all the Mike's Carwashes are very good carwashes for hand spraying. You have to be careful though, I've seen one or two smaller "Mike's" that don't have any spray bays at all. There is a nice one right off of 31 south down here. It is right next to Ray Skillman Mitsubishi. It's just north of the Greenwood Park Mall on the west side of the road.

Nice to have you here in Indy!

-Sam

PS. I'll get flamed for this, but I also take my car through the "automatic" wash at that same Mike's. It's up to you. Just take note of any little marks on your car just to be safe. Never had a problem and it cleans up very nicely! Sometimes have to take it through twice to clean the wheels though.

By the way, what's traffic like on race day? What time should I hit the road to get to my seat on time? I'm coming from a hotel in Greenwood, IN.

Thanks!

I wouldn't imagine traffic to be all that bad, but you never know. I would suggest taking whatever time you would usually allocate for yourself and double it. If you don't already have parking somewhere, that make take you a while. Remember that lots of parking will be pre-pay.

Thanks Sam. I actually have the parking pass in hand thank goodness. BTW, I've never used spray bays before. This is my first "cool" car that I want to take care of, LOL. Can I attach my Mr. Clean AutoDry Carwash to a hose at Mike's Wash or is it a hose with a fixed nozzle? If not, I might just run through the express wash (at risk of getting flamed!). But you stated you've come out of there with decent results.

Thanks again for the info.
