We just got word that gas is suppose to go up to $4.00 a gallon here in the Midwest. This is something that just came down the chain here at Whiteman AFB, telling people that are going away for the weekend to plan for it so they have money to get back. I don't think they are lying about it, I wish I could tell you more but I can't. If you plan on flying you might want to get tickets now too, I'm guessing the price of Jet A is going to go through the roof. I'm not saying all this is 100%, I'd say is probably about a 75% chance. I hope they are wronge because I'm driving 6 hours to go home this weekend.
I hate AAFES....they are gouging prices. they dont pay taxes on stuff. It's supposed to be tax-free but all their stuff is the same price as on the outside. Gas is maybe 10 cents cheaper on my base.
I still wouldn't drive my old ratty Geo Metro. It's actually more of a safety/fallapart issue
I used to drive a Geo Metro....I know what you mean by Safety.....and for a 6'2" 250lbs Guy, a Geo Metro isn't a good choice....resulted in knee hitting dash and splitting in halve. Hurt like a BITCH. The Docs bolted the knee back together though.

Sorry black, most bases, like our here, the food chain is susceptible to email hysteria like any normal bunch. The crap I see forwarded from folks who should damn well know better just amazes me.
I get stuff from security thats on the front page of Snopes. Stuff from safety that is just plain bull. Just cuase your chain of command put that out means nothing. Whe it comes to military matters, they of course are in charge. Predicting gas prices, not so much.

Glad I'm leaving the country for a few weeks and will not have to drive, maybe by the time I get back they might go down a bit.
When I was in highschool a buddy and I drove a metro to florida, it was actually kind of funny we got around 50 mpg and actually got that thing close to 100 (going down the mountains in tenn.)
The trashed car looks more like a Prizm than a metro IMO.
