Default Unlocked iPhone 3G question

I just got an iPhone 3G and unlocked it. Now, I was wondering if I could use T-Mobile's 3G network with my iPhone (just for talking, not data). Ive had my SIM for over 5 years. When I try to turn on 3G mode now I lose my signal. Anyone know?

just a guess, but you might have to modify the network settings to look for t-mobile's network as opposed to AT&T's. Also, obviously you need to actually subscribe to T-Mo's 3g service.

Finally.. you should have just gotten an Android phone. It does everything the iphone does - and more - and you wouldnt have had to jailbreak it or anything(since Google doesn't reject apps for arbitrary reasons)

edit: if you just want to use it to talk, why does it matter if it's on 3g or not? edge voice quality is no different and easier on the battery.

You can use an Iphone on Tmobiles network but you wouldn't be able to use many data apps. Its easier on a 3G as opposed to a 3GS and I think the firmware has to be low

I agree with Smoger though. I have T mobile and the Android operating system is much better and more flexible than Apple's IMO. I just lost my phone but I will have a new one by next week just haven't decided which android phone to get
