I like the watercooling setup, but why WC a system that will run pretty cool to begin with? Most people use WCing when they've got rediculously high end machines, overclocked all to hell. You could run 4 silent fans and keep it sufficiently cool with that setup.

Bro when I had this thing on air with a house fan blowing on it, don't get much more cool on air than that, my temps were about 44șc on idle and 55-57șc under load.

Now on water 29șc idle and 39-40șc under load. Gives me a lot more room to overclock. Phenoms need a lot of voltage to overclock as they are not great overclockers to begin with, other than that I do think its a great CPU.

Watercooling helped out my rig a lot.

check out my idle temps below

That's actually a pretty low load temperature with fans. Mine runs about 35* idle and 65* full load with 3 case fans.

I hope you do a lot of folding or encoding with that machine, because gaming will be completely worthless. If you don't do a lot of CPU intensive tasks, you're just wasting CPU cycles.

when i was on air I had a Thermal Take Big Typhoon CPU Cooler. Great cooler if you ask me.

However, I dont do a lot of encoding or anything of that nature, but upgrading from my dual core to a quad core, it was a night and day difference. no matter how much things you do at once it just takes it with a breeze.

Although many games or apps are not optimized for quad cores. Its a day and night difference, at least it was to me, also gaming as well.

When I was AMD I had a Thermalright XP-90 with a 92mm Panaflo H1A. That thing was cool, although it was also pretty loud if I turned up the fan.

Then I switched to Intel and I lost all interest in OCing since it doesn't actually help gaming in the least, maybe a 1FPS change in any given game. Instead I now invest in a hardcore video card, and it makes all the difference in the world.

Next up is probably an ATI HD4870X2.

Damn that's not much better than my idle on air...

I just got my 4870 today, not an x2, but it still rocks.

it depends alot on room temp and location. Also, what does your system consists of. Remember some Cpu's run hotter etc, etc.

What are your temps under 100% load over a few hours?

Not sure, I am OC'd right now and it's really not worth it at all. I will monitor my temps when I go back to stock and report back.

cool. I don't overclock to get better performance in games, I mean I do, and although it ain't big, its something, but I am a overclocking enthusiast. I love it. Luckily, i've been smart and have not messed up anything ever while doing so. But to me its just fun.

The new CPU's aren't challenging in the least to overclock. With 45-65nm die's, these things hardly put out any heat at all.

What I loved was trying to overclock the old Thunderbirds; you could cook an egg on one of those processors they ran so hot. I remember running with my fans on low once with one of those OCed, I was seeing 80*C case temps

I wasn't so into it back then, I was just into having a nice rig, but didn't do the whole overclocking thing. Hey I managed to get a nice overclock out of my 90nm Athlon x2 6000+, did 3.5GHz on air

Same here, I like knowning the limits of these chips.

I am at 40c/33c on my cores idle, but it's still breaking in the Arctic Silver. I just lapped it recently...scary bending 10 pins

You win! haha

I have a Yate Loon fan though, pretty quiet. I need a more efficient 120MM fan
