You, on the other hand, don't really have any place to go....UNLESS your P4 is a LGA775, which in that case you could swap out a Core 2 duo chip and be golden. But you have to make sure it is compatible w/ your motherboard...

Go here CPUID download that, and run it on both computers. Easiest way to find out which socket is being used, then we can offer advice from there.

cool man thanks. Smoger and a few others have been posting how at the most a $100 video card up grade is all that people need and you can game on an HDTV and be golden and I just found that kind of hard to believe but figured I would give it a shot that why trying this.

Thanks for the help I will go ahead and run that after work.

well for example, here's bioshocks requirements:

- Minimum System Requirements -

CPU - Pentium 4 2.4GHz Single Core processor

System RAM - 1GB

Video Card - Direct X 9.0c compliant video card with 128MB RAM (NVIDIA 6600 or better/ATI X1300 or better, excluding ATI X1550).

Sound Card - 100% direct X 9.0c compatible sound card

Hard disc space - 8GB free space

...so your system is fine for now, aside from your video card.. which is what i predicted is most people's situation. the 2.4-3ghz P4's came out in 2003,.. so this system could have been going on to it's 5th year as a gaming machine by now. that pretty much proves my point, and covers the life of a typical console,.. and you'll probably be OK with that for about another year or so.

smoger is right again.

How good will bioshock run on that minimum set-up? Compared to running it on a 360?

it will run it fine, so long as you dont expect a moderate setup like this to run it at max settings. once again, the pc graphics will be better, so even if you "turn it down", you're still going to just be turning it "down to" xbox360 level graphics.

sounds good to me, O and that video card is the 3td one that I put in there. The orig barley could run COH at even 20 or so fps and kept going bad, the next one did better, but then got a good deal on this one so went up again and gave the old one to a friend.

good to know then. so what video card can I get for my system that will let it run on my tv?

if you want to play games, upgrading your PC will cost you a buttload of money.

A decent video card will run you $200 8series nvidia.
2 - 4gb or ram will run you $40 - $80
Core2 cpu w/mobo around $220

You're looking at around $500 just to get a PC that will play a game with decent settings.

Of course you could get an Xbox 360 and buy Bioshock for $30 and walk out the store for about $350 (after this Saturday of course).

I think Smoger's idea and point that he is helping me and others with is that you can get your pc to play on your tv for very little money and it will look and play better then a 360 or PS3

ok, here's your card. it's not the best that's out there, but it will be more than enough to compliment your existing hardware and play modern games at fair settings .

Newegg.com - BFG Tech BFGE73512GT GeForce 7300GT 512MB 128-bit GDDR2 AGP 4X/8X Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards

they had more choice for AGP cards for ATI cards.. but i dont like them, dont follow them, and dont know much about them..

look closer, it has component out. the only thing component can't do is upscaling movies, and thats only due to bullshit legal limits

or use vga.. im sure your tv has that as well.

Not to start a debate or anything, but I don't really understand why everyone loves Bioshock so much anyways. Granted it is a good game with a pretty decent storyline, I still feel it was waaaaay too linear to make a great PC FPSRPG. Games like Deus Ex and System Shock 2 utterly destroy Bioshock in terms of "freeform linearity" (coined by me, thank you), gameplay and just about every other category with the exception of graphics and sound (obviously).

I dunno, I enjoyed Bioshock but I was never sucked in like I was with Deus Ex and SS2.
