come on dude, you know better than to criticize a website based on a BETA browser. when firefox3 is final we'll put effort into it. (maybe before, but still struggling with the craptastic ie7 too)

smoger, is it possible to be able to have an automatic feature on the site for each profile that tells who is online playing at that moment in time besides the status thing you have to edit yourself? Idk how it would be done like if you need to add a friend who sends an auto message to n-g-online from your wii when you're online and then posts it in your profile or something saying you're on, but I'm curious if it's possible. It'd be nice if we want to hop on and we can go play with someone if we know they're on rather than waiting for a response through a pm or something? Just curious if it's possible.
i wish it was. unfortunately it's up to people to update their status. there's no way for the wii to report what's being played to the site. now,.. if you dont want to leave the whole page open, you can click that button on top of the dash and it breaks out into a new window that updates automatically.
now,.. to make it a little easier,.. i could add a button on each game page to automatically post a status update that theyre playing it. they'd still have to click the button though. think it's worthwhile?

I guess it couldn't hurt. I mean someone would have to bounce back and forth from their computer to their wii either way to turn it on or off (the same thing they would have to do to update their status).
Which isn't hard; then again there are a lot of lazy people in the world who would rather click 1 button than type 3 words so I guess it couldn't hurt to try it out and monitor how much it's used in order to place value on it. And maybe add a "players online now" section or something that people can click on and view who is online rather than searching through every profile to see who is on. Might be easier as the site grows.

how about a help section where people can go ask questions and get feedback. Or a discussion/chat that people can go ask opinions on games or for personal reviews or something.
Someone should make a profile called n-g-online.com and use it in online game play or if it's possible to customize messages and send them to people with the website on it. Kind of for an advertising purpose and to help let the site grow.
Idk, I'm just throwing out some random ideas as they come to me.

this is great guys, i really appreciate the feedback. always looking to implement new features and it helps to have eyes other than mine looking at things.
Noisu: which banners are you referring to?
siberian: added a link on the game pages to update your status with 1 click. it appears up near the top on any game you have listed in your profile.
as for a help section, i wrote a pretty thorough new user guide that walks you through the basic site functions(if you missed it, it's linked in your welcome email, and also on the right hand side of the site, near the bottom). there's also a contact link at the bottom of every page that people typically use when trouble pops up, and we discuss (briefly) changes and features of the site on the podcast each week.
as for using the online system to advertise, nintendo makes it pretty hard. you can only communicate with people who've traded codes with you, so they generally already know about the site. i get your point though and i'm always brainstorming ideas to increase exposure. like for instance the sending messages to your wii is only something i implemented like a week ago. working pretty well so far.

could you make a profile like a mario kart license with your site's name on it and advertise it like that? That way when you play online, everyone see's your name when you're driving because it shows names anyway? I've told a few of my wii friends but most of the others have a 360. Also by help I meant like gaming help or any other discussion outside of setup and site functions etc. Like what's the best character for this? Whats the best track for this? How do you do this trick? how do you get past this boss? Stuff like that. any ideas?
Also for the link. Is there an easier way to get to it? the way I get to it is press the my profile tab, then scroll down to view my profile, then click the game, then click playing right now? And you just click it again to turn it off right? We should definitely get a page going that has all active players playing online even if they aren't your friends.
Also is there a problem with the players map that shows everyone's location? It's not loading for me and idk if it's on my end or yours.

It won't save any info I add. Just clears it when I update.
i'll check it out for you tonight or tomorrow and let you know what the deal is.
if you're leaving any fields blank, let me know which ones. i'm not saying you can't, but it'll help me find the bug if i know which ones they are(because its most likely a problem with the way it's parsing your input)

that might work. i think it uses the name associated with the Mii that the license is for. i'll mess with it tonight and see what i can do.

maybe in the future,.. but as for now most discussion comes in the form of comments left on the blog, which we really are trying to encourage as opposed to a typical forum setup.

all it actually does is update your status for your friends, so to "turn it off", just enter a new status update. you can of course fill the status in by hand if you dont feel like clicking to the games page, but there's several ways to get there. the fastest is to click "my games" up at the top

that's doable.. show the status of everyone who has "now playing" in their status updates, sorted by time(descending). i'll try to do it tomorrow

apparantly there is for the main one. i think it's getting some bad geocodes passed to it so i'll check that out and fix accordingly. Update: Fixed!
