But, there's a new option for the displays. They now offer the "Hi Resolution/Bright, glossy widescreen 15.4 WLED display (1440x900)". It's lower resolution but is powered by LED's instead of the traditional LCD. Brighter and lower power consumption (apparently is debateable).
So is the lower resolution and a lower price (-$25) worth the brighter display, wider viewing angles, and less battery consumption?
Opinions welcome, also about the setup as well.

is it the same thing that the new tv's are coming out with? i wouldnt get a glossy screen though - but thats just my opinion, i hate the glare on them...
Possibly? I dunno. Oh and i'm with you as well on the glossy/non. Too bad dell only offers glossy. I like the matte finish of the DLP screens. Hardly any glare at all.

yeah my g/f got a dell laptop and it has that glossy screen and i cant stand it... you have to always have it at the right angle to see it...
Ive never seen an LED screen though, so i cant be of any help, id like to hear what the difference in them is though some pro's and con's between LCD and LED
I went ahead and ordered the LED screen. We'll see.. Worst case scenario, if i dont like it i'll just tear it off and duct tape a regular LCD screen to it. I'll let you guys know how the screen is tho. Wont get it till august. Long build time for w/e reason.
To those of you on the edge or unsure of the WLED screens offered by dell... Do It! Absolutely love it. Can be rediculously bright, or extremely dim for lower power consumption. Extremely crisp, hardly any glare at all when on ultra-mega brightness setting. The lowest brightness setting does give it a little glare, but its hardly noticeable actually.
I dont know how the standard LCD Dell Studio 15's handle as far as power consumption goes, but with all the bells and whistles turned off and reduced and what not (at least all the things i can find to reduce power consumption), the laptop only lasts about 3-3½ hours when under continuous use. Good for a movie + playing on a flight somewhere.
The new Studio 15 is a great laptop though. Alot of features, HDMI output (really wish they offered input too. mobile hd tv anyone?), 4 2.0 usb ports in PRACTICAL locations; 2 on each side, firewire port, alot of other ports. lol... It works with Vista nicely. I actually kinda like vista. Love the new features, and I have had 0 problems so far with it. It connects to my printer without issue, and connects to my fiancee's and my wireless network.
Oh, and fingerprint reader is slick. No more typing passwords to login to windows.
A silly thing thought that i had to figure out. So there's a Dell software program called Dell Quickset that enables all of the keyboard features (like [function-UP/DOWN] for screen brightness), and puts an on-screen visual of what is going on, like a volume bar, brightness bar, battery level bar, etc. Well after i rebooted for the first time it stopped doing it, and i was kinda annoyed because the volume thing was the most obnoxious to try and adjust without something visual to go by. Found out, the damn Quickset program was not placed in the Startup folder. So it would never run when windows ran. Quick fix. Just kinda silly i had to do that.
Thats all for now. Its a sweet laptop, i recommend.
Fantastic. The best part is, even on the dimmest setting, its still brighter and more clear than the dimmest setting on any lcd laptop i've ever seen. And its so damn crisp, everything about the screen is great. Def. recommend this over any of the other options for screens.
