EGM can claim integrity all they want but they are the same mag that said the 10 they gave Halo 3 is not the same as a 10 they gave Bioshock.
why would it be the "same 10"? Different people, different opinions.
Dan Hsu reviewed Halo 3 and Andrew Pfister reviewed Bioshock.
..again, a review boils down to being an informed opinion, and it's not like Hsu's review was far off what EVERY OTHER reviewer said about the game. would I give it a 10? hell no, i wouldnt give it an 8, and i'd give bioshock a 15. but thats just my opinion. just like you have yours.
all i'm saying is you can't claim that a publication has no integrity just because you dont agree with their review
I think I remember hearing from Adam Sessler [Xplay] on a podcast about the cut-scenes. Its supposed to be something like an 8-10 minute initial install and then a 2-3min install per chapter. Meh, I can care less either way. My first game Ill play on this dusty system will be GT5 (the actual game, not the demo )
goddam. thats a lot of installing. is the Blu Ray media showing it's weakness already this early in the PS3's life?

this must be related to its relatively slow read speed....from what i understand it can buffer and play videos easily but then acessing data its slow to move around on different spots on the disc to fix that i read that they were using redundancy and placing parts of the games all over the disc in different locations but i guess with a game that actually needs alot of space they cant use redundancy so they use install features....

that actually makes a lot of sense. i remember hearing about the redundant textures in the earlier games.

Hit the nail right on the head. Max. read speed on a BD is 2X, which is the reason for the installs, not because there wasn't enough room on the Blu Ray disc. Hell, Kojima wanted to use a BD-50 instead of a BD-25, didn't have enough room for that 90 minute cut-scene, ehh Smoger?
well ,.. the one thing to remember, though, is that the speed rating is relative. 2x for a BD-ROM isn't 2x for a DVD-ROM isn't 2x for a CD-ROM
1x is roughly the speed required to read the data 1:1.. IE.. a 90 minute long movie could be read in real time with no buffering on a 1x BD-ROM. The movie has a much higher bitrate than a DVD does, so 1x for BD-ROM is faster than 1x for DVD-ROM and so forth.. it's simply transferring more data.
Now, that being said.. it's a bit different for games due to the fact that it's not being read sequentially like a movie would be(and the fact that the game can't wait until you SEE something to load it)

I know this. Just saying that there is a valid reason for the installs. If Sony were to release another Playstation 3 revision some time down the road, they would be wise to throw in a faster BD drive, to keep people from bitching about installs, which even then I doubt it'll get rid of them completely but might cut them down.

try doing some research my friend, you will find that the read speed on BR is actually WAY faster than DVD/HD-DVD.
360 games install to the harddrive too. Installing during cutscenes lessens the affect on the player. HOW IS THIS A BAD THING?
Nice try. Microsoft has strict policies on what games can do on the console and one thing that they absolutely CANNOT do is install anything.
The ONLY exception to this rule is MMORPG's, and I'm not sure that any exist with an install yet.
Also, of course downloadable games install, and they're limited to 350mb or less.

If anything, this shows how weak the 360's media of choice is. Good luck fitting MGS4 on a DVD.
If I even cared about that game, I'd be fine with it being on 2 dvd's. Swapping a disc one time through gameplay is fast than waiting for a 5gb install(or several in this case). I had Quake on 27 floppy disks.. and you think I'm gonna cry about 2 dvd's?

You can spot the XBOX fanboys a mile away. I tell you. Does this not ever get old? Bashing another console all the time? Get over it already.
I'm the fanboy, when I'm speaking facts, whereas you're simply making up shit or guessing. Is it even possible that I'm a fanboy considering I own a total of 3 retail Xbox360 games? THREE!!!!
The funny thing about this whole situation is that once the game is released (today) reviewers are allowed to talk about anything they want. The NDA was just for early reviews of the game, which is one reason I believe some sites, IGN for example, held out on the review until today. For the record, MGS4 takes up 4.1gb and if you install MGO it takes an additional 500mb. Not an issue for me since I still have 90+ gigs available on my HDD.

Try 5 dvd's. And yes, it's possible. When you bash another console for no good reason you're displaying fanboyism. How does it affect you that MGS4, or any other game for that matter, installs to the harddrive? I figured you didn't care about that game in particular, and that's wonderful. But if you really don't care, why are we having this discussion?
Honestly it sounds to me like someone here works for egm. Who the hell cares that they "aren't playing along" with whatever it is Konami wants from them. If they spoil games, then I hope publishers black list them. They deserve it.

This is a discussion about a game publisher strong arming the media,.. doesn't matter that it's MGS4, Kane and Lynch, or any other game.

How is it "bashing" to state a fact that the combination of drive speed and limited memory in the PS3 forces devs to utilize the hard drive for decent loading times? It's not like I'm saying "omg teh ps3 is so gay!" I'm simply stating a fact about it. A fact that you can't possibly refute because it's true.
The funniest thing is when I talk about the 360, people call me a PC fanboy.
When I post about the PS3, I'm a 360 fanboy
When I post that the Wii is a fun system, I'm a Wii fanboy
2 years ago they were calling me a PS2 fanboy, and before that a Dreamcast fanboy.
I guess the only one I didnt get yet is DS fanboy, and that's funny since i own more DS games than anything(and still havent picked up a PSP).
But it would seem to me, when you get called a fanboy of everything, it pretty much just makes you a FAN(of everything)
Hell, if you look back a few days I even recommended a great deal on the PS3 that walmart is having this week. thought about picking it up myself, but i would have been selling the copy of MGS4 it comes with.
And no, I don't work for EGM, though I am a member of the games press so yes these things are interesting to me.(nothing anywhere close to the scale of an EGM or IGN)
