This is getting frustrating. When I first got the PS3, it was setup to run wireless. Everything was smooth and was running up to speed. Well one day I try and play some cod, and it lags, and boots me off the game. Tried again and same thing happened. So I decided to change the settings to run it off a wired connection, didnt help. Nothing was changed to cause this, and after fooling with it today, still got nowhere. When the system first boots up, it has a solid connection (the green light on the bottom stays solid), I go to the ps store, and anytime I move to select something the green light starts flickering like the signal is getting disrupted. I tried to download a demo of NFS Prostreet and it said it was gonna take 45 mins! My connection before, when everything was working didnt take but a few mins to download a demo. I try to preview a movie and it plays for like 1 sec, stops, has to load, plays another sec and repeats. This is getting annoying, do I need to buy a new router? Im using an old Linksys unit. I just dont know why it worked absolutely fantastic for the couple months it did, then one day it starts doing this. Any help???
Check under your network settings your connection status. Make sure everything is cool. If you are wired reset up your connection as easy and just let the PS3 choose the connection and see if that works. When you test your connection it will tell you how long until something succeeds. The longer something takes is because that it might have a weak connection there.
Have it on right now, its on wireless, and my signal strentgh is flucuating between 22%, 25%, and 27%, and just went to 30%. The router is right outside my fucking room.
Edit: Just did a connection test, everything succeeded (obviously).
My connection speed (download)* - 1.1 Mbps
My connection speed (upload)* - 685.5 kbps
Dont know wtf any of that means, but there you have it.
If there is any possible way you could hard wire your PS3 to the internet, I suggest doing that. Your download speed is 1.1 mbps, that is going to be troublesome when you decide to play multiplayer games. The only way to increase your download/upload speeds are to run an ethernet cable from your modem to the back of your PS3.

Your wireless strength is very weak. You want to be at least 85% signal strength and higher. that signal strength you have is the reason why you are dropping and having problems.
My buddy had a PS3 in a case and his router was upstairs and his signal strength was 25% and he would end up dropping since sometimes you make lose signal briefly.
Like Chaotic said 1.1mps is not going to cut it for playing online.

Any other solutions besides running an ethernet cable from the router to the back of the ps3? And can either of you tell me why it did this all the sudden one day, when I never messed with anything? Thanks for the help so far.
Have you tried resetting the modem and router? I do that when mine starts to download slow and it goes back to normal.
And I played on a friend's connection that was only around 980kbps and online games ran just fine. 1.1mbps should work just fine for a single person playing an online game. Hell, my friend had 4 people playing Halo 3 on that connection at the same time and had no issues.
If you are using any sort of wireless, is it encrypted? Could a neighbor be leeching bandwidth? Your speed test is terrible, you are loosing some serious bandwidth somewhere. Who is your ISP?
Using Bellsouth. Have no clue what encrypted or any of that stuff means? I can move my cursor over the little computer icon on my toolbar that shows my connection, it say my speed is 54.0 mbps and my signal strength is excellent. The internet always runs smooth and doesnt really lag at all. Like I said, it was working absolutely fine before, then one day it started acting up. I just never messed with it, but im wanting to pick up mw2, and id like to get this issue fixed so I can play online again.
