gaming and laptop don't go hand in hand. not for 1000, at least.
i'd recommend getting a desktop if games are a priority
and the guy who said apple is an idiot, unless you want to play 3 year old games. and i think the lowest macbook you can get is already over your budget anyway.
Quoted for Troof.
As far as laptops go, HP is good (own one), Dell is good (use them at work), Sony is good (but expensive, g/f owns one). Toshiba ain't bad either.
Get as much RAM and HD as you can for your budget. Core2Duo's are nice, I have one in my desktop and it overclocks like a champ (not that you'll be able to do that in a notebook)
That ASUS in the link is killer for the money. I'm not a fan of huge 17" laptops, but it seeps pretty sweet.
MacBook FTMFW... havent you seen the commercials? Mac>PC... there is absolutly nothing you cant do on a mac that you can do on a PC... well besides get virus
and customize your hardware beyond ram and hard drive
and run legacy software / hardware
and right click
and use all of the computer's built in peripherals(boot camp drivers are shitty for secondary devices like camera and trackpad)
..and your windows partition , even on a mac, WILL be susceptible to viruses.. moreso because you dont realize that and arent taking precautions against it.

Im sorry but you could not be more wrong if you tried...
My right click works just as it would on the mac side... if you touch the touchpad with two fingers at once.. it right clicks...
the build in peripherals are ALL COMPLETELY SUPPORTED! This includes the Camera.. and trackpad... and keyboard... and Mic... and all the shortcuts work just as they would in leopard... The XP drivers and BUILT INTO the Leopard CD that they sent me with the Macbook. All i did is put it in while booted to windows and they self installed... autorun FTW... and yea i know i can still get virsus on the windows side.. its not the hardware that gets viruses.. its the windows itself... AVAST FTW... that and no dloaded from limewire on the XP side

funny that my xp partition is gimped with poor drivers(also from the leopard disc) that cause it to crash if i try to use the mic or camera, and no two finger tap on the trackpad(actually not even single finger tap on the trackpad)
..and the trackpad button is broke(as it is on many people's macbooks) so if i want to boot into windows i HAVE to have a mouse attached

Yeah me either, I bought mine from a friend while I was in Iraq. It was 4 months old at the time, and he sold it to me for cheap... BUT it has a 19'' screen, which sucks., big time. It's the G3 or something like that.
Well i think i've settled on a laptop. Looking at the Sony Vaio CR series (14.1" screen). I was looking for a laptop that had decent/good gaming performance, but since my fiancee bought me a xbox360 for graduation, the gaming aspect is out the window.
Check out the specs:

Microsoft® Windows Vista® Home Premium with Service Pack 1

Comes out to just under $1200.00. What do you guys think?
Wish it offered a 7200rpm HD for this model, but no joy.
I'm surprised nobody has suggested Dell. That would be honestly your best bet. You will get a solid reliable laptop at a great price. I just picked up a Inspiron 1720 with a T8300 2.4ghz Intel Dual Core, 2gb ram, upgraded 17" screen (1920x1200), bluetooth, wireless N card and a Nvidia 8600gt, pretty much loaded for $1100.
Dell has crazy coupon deals if you search around, my laptop was originally about 1500 and I found a 30% off coupon w/free shipping.
I can play ALL the new games no problem, Crysis even plays fine (on low settings lol).
dell is still on the plate. and actually when u mentioned the graphics card i forgot that the particular sony vaio i had selected didn't offer an option for graphics card, and i'm not a big fan of on-board anything. It was a recent decision for the smaller-screened laptops, i'll have to see what dell is offering.
I guess i should just go with dell anyways, my future brother-in-law works for dell and can pass on his employee discount.
