Gaming pricing breakdown. Why PC gaming is NOT as expensive as you think..
Just wanted to dispel the myth of "pc gaming is too expensive" so I figured I'd do a true cost break down among the consoles. We're going to assume we're interested in online play, that we're buying 1 game per month for a 4 year life span, and we're keeping in mind that playing a game on a pc doesn't always have to mean playing at 100% graphics quality (low quality on most pc games is comparable to the output of any game console)
So, let's start with the consoles...
Nintendo Wii
------------------------------------
Console... $250
Online... $ 0
Games... $1440-2400 ($30-$50)
Total Cost(4yrs) $1690-$2650
Xbox 360
-------------------------------------
Console.... $350
Online.... $200
Games... $2880 ($60)
Total Cost(4 years) $3430
PC
-------------------------------------
Console.... $310(8800 gt + 1gb ram over your existing computer)
Online.... $ 0
Games... $1920 - $2400($40-$50*)
Total Cost(4 years) $2230-$2710
* for the sake of giving the consoles even a shot at being close, we'll completely ignore the fact that many pc games are now being released for absolutely free, and we'll ignore the plethora of quality bargain games, which are the pc version of "greatest hits", but generally come in at $10-20 as opposed to $30-40
like i stated in the rb6v2 thread, its all about personal preference and oppinion. u have urs, i have mne, everyone has there own. udont hae to make threads about this, u dont have to go in a thread about xbox and bash the game, the console, or the gamers.

no, i don't have to, but i love to bash you, you get so upset over it as i use my superior intellect and straightness to tear apart every post you make.
your fogetting that a lot of games you can get used and for cheap. I mean if your going to just point out about any game no matter how old and what not.
also I have seen pc games running at lower settings and no they are no where near a console game. you have to be running your games on a pc at a pretty decent rate to get them to run as smooth and look as good as a console

No one believed when I pushed the idea of 300whp on the stock turbo now look.when I said the stock motor could handle 400whp now look.when I stood by the idea that a piggy back could get you 400whp let alone 500whp now look.that you could run anything above a dry 35 shot on the motor, and then they went all the way to pushing 75.
you also for got to add in that many differnt pc games do have monthly fee's attached to them. Take one of the more popular games out there City of Heroes that is $145 a year just for that game a lone to play online.
The only monthly fee schedule games are the MMPORPG's. COD, Crysis, etc are all free... plus all the mods available for them..
I have always been a pc gamer... other than racing games I personally dont like consoles. That whole lack of mouse, keyboard thing... My roomie watches me play pc COD4 and constantly says damn we are lucky pc guys cant play on xbl

..ok, then we WILL throw in the free pc game argument, and we'll count the $5 discounts from gamestops on used console games.
so that brings the 4 year total to:
PC: $0 - $2400
Xbox: $2640

wrong. you can actually leave everything on high and lower the resolution to the same resolution as the xbox outputs(720p) and the graphics would be the same resolution while still have better shadows, AA, etc.

actually many game are now 1080i or 1080p
and you can pick up many games for $20 or less
I myself played Oblivion on both PC and 360 and it looked just as good on my 65" TV as it did on my 21" monitor
another thing you forgot to add in your comparison is that you will run across a ton more modders on a PC then a console. A friend of mine has a co-worker that is a die hard PC gamer but he even admits that you do end up running into modders/cheaters a ton on the PC and have to take time untill you can find the servers that do not have them as much.
I also noticed that you overlooked the yearly cost of MMO players
1. the biggest games online nowadays all have anti cheating mechanisms that are required to be updated to the latest versions in order to play. if you try to connect without the latest updates, you get kicked within 5 minutes. anyone who cries about cheaters is just a sore loser.
2. the yearly cost of MMO's is the *SAME* on consoles and pc's. i don't see why we should even be talking about it. it cancels itself out on either side of the coin. also, there's a couple MMO's on pc that are FREE per month, there are NO MMO's on consoles that are free per month
