I can see why some people still hold out hope though. Seeing as how Square has milked as much as they can out of the FF7 universe with all of the spin offs, side stories, etc. (Advent Children, Crisis Core, Dirge of Cerberus) it only makes sense to some people to remake the game. It would easily be one of the top PS3 sellers especially given the weak game library that it would compete against.
It's also not uncommon for Square to re-release older FF titles with upgrades to them like they have done with the Nintendo DS so there is a precedent in place for them to do so.
