Default Ati Hd 4870

Just got one today to try it out since people have been going crazy about them. Now I can say I completely understand why. I mean seriously guys, it is quite simply fucking amazing. The performance boost is absolutely unbelievable. If you have a decent setup you can easily run crysis on high-very high with this video card.

I recommend this card to everyone. If you are low on budget, forget the GTX280 and get an HD 4870. Take my word for it.
Although I've tried both, the GTX280 does better in 3DMark benchmarking, but when it comes to gaming (especially crysis), my HD 4870 completely blew out my GTX280 out the water.

Man I hear ya on that. But seriously, ATI has failed and just couldn't compete with NVIDIA, until they released the 4800 series. The 4850 can't even compare to a 4870. You can run 2 4850s and 1 4870 and the difference will be very little.

What size monitor and resolution are you running?

I have a 22" @ 1680x1050...which can utilize a beefy GPU if needed

Hmm I may have to look into this over the GTX280. 2x the price for similar performance = fail.

Tell me about it. Like seriously, don't bother wasting your money with the GTX280. ATI completely hooked it up and you will not be disappointed. HD 4870 all the way!!

i wouldnt say similar performance. a little better than the 260, but not as good as the 280. im still getting the 280 after the next price drop.

all this ati talk is greek to me.

buy nvidia. you won't want to be waiting on 3rd party CUDA implementations for PhysX when that hits the market. cool that nvidia is supporting that development though..

i'll just stick with my 8800

I'm still happy with my 8800GTX, but once new video card speeds hit about 50% increase, then I'll probably jump on the bandwagon.
