Fucking aye, finally got ahold of Prototype for my 360, went to load the game, and one freaking red light started flashing, and the screen said E 74. Looked it up online, and it says
Quote:
E74: AV cable error... There is a problem with the AV cable, try using a different AV cable. If the cable is known to be working then there is a 90% chance it's a scaler chip problem (the "ANA" or "HANA" chip connected directly to the AV cable) in rare cases it is the GPU.
So i checked the AV cable, swapped between my HDMI, a buddies HDMI, and both of our original cables, with the same results. So i guess this means i will be without my 360 for a while....
EDIT: Shit, and they want $99 just to fix the damn thing?!?!? Fuuuuuuu

Dude call those guys at MS back. E74 is caused by a faulty cable but is also caused by the solder coming loose on the ANA/HANA (in HDMI models) scaling chip loose. They just changed around things in the 360 set up so instead of some consoles getting RROD they get E74 which was not covered. Now MS has covered it so call them back it should be free if you are within your 3 year warranty.
Here is the link that explains its now under the RROD warranty straight from Microsoft's Xbox site:

As a result, we have decided to cover repairs related to the E74 error message under our three-year warranty program for certain general hardware failures that was announced in July 2007.

You shouldn't be paying for nothing.
That's good, if he bought it within 3 years and has a receipt to prove so or registered his console online. Otherwise he's SOL. If I was you buddy, if you can't get it repaired at THEIR expense, I'd go out and buy a new arcade system and swap your hard drive over. The new hardware models are so much nicer, run 10x cooler and quieter, and have FAR less problems. I've got one of the brand new ones and it's like a completely different console noise/heat wise than my launch 360.

Unless something has changed in the warranty that I don't know about, you don't need a receipt or anything to be covered. I know someone that bought his used and he returned it with no problem when it was messed up. From what I remember they just go by the date printed on the back of the xbox near the serial number and if it's within 3 years of that then it's free to be repaired...
Dude, I feel your pain. I haven't had the RROD or anything, but I moved and just got my internet back a few days ago. But the problem is that they had to put the modem in the other room. So I had to buy myself one of the wireless network modems. I ordered it on amazon.com for $73 bucks shipped brand new. It'll be here this friday and I can't wait!!! I've been without online play for two weeks now and it's fucking killing me!!! I can't wait for this weekend though!!! Finally!!!
