Default What keeps you psyched and edgy at the track?

Finally made it to the track this year. Went to Pacific Raceway on Wed. July 2. Only got 3 passes before it rained. Took me an hour and a half to get those 3 passes. I'm spoiled by Bremerton. Raced Last Friday, got 23 passes in 3 1/2 hours. That's more like it! It helps me to develop consistency. It took me the first three passes just to figure out what I needed to work on.

After about 18 passes I kind of felt like I was losing that cranked up, turned on feeling. Had to get out of the car for a few minutes and think about other things. Then my technique improved. How do you guys keep your head in the game? Does the natural flow of testosterone keep you psyched and edgy? C

For me it's just the exhilaration of making the pass down the track that keeps the adrenaline flowing.

Obsessions,

If you are not staying psyched at the track then perhaps you need to switch back from decaf.. and if you already have then you need to bitchslap your craq dealer.

Seriously tho. Being psyched at the track is overrated. you need to be calm to be consistent. Being calm helps keep you from making stupid errors that might end you up on a flat tow. I usually have to sit in grid by myself and just concentrate on relaxing. Making sure to remind myself to not over rev during upshifts and not to rip the f*cking 8ball off the stick from 1st to 2nd etc.

I dont know what the rest of you do .. but I'm not usually having to worry about not being psyched.. I usually have to worry about being overly psyched. It wears off quickly and then I can get to business but for those first couple runs I'm making all the mistakes.

Taking a break between runs someplace quiet where you can visualize the run without being interupted is probably the best way to figure out what you have been doing wrong and create a decent plan to fix it. when you are chatting with others or waiting for a back to back run you dont get that time to really think about it. You end up doing the same things again and its reinforcing as just 'what you do'. It's better to stop relax think about it and kill it before it becomes muscle memory =]

Get comfortable with racing the car and then process the technique. You don't need to be cranked up all the time because it will wear you down. Stay sharp but calm and you will get your best times.

i usually think "calm is the key to making it all the way to the timing shack with a completed pass"

when you get all "psyched up" chances are you'll mess up the burn out, botch the launch and fuk up a shift. Staying calm/collected is how i work best.

I remember at the nats in memphis i entered the bracket races with like 30 other cars, i knocked off alot of fast cars with my consistancy as i was driving a 12sec capable s2 car i dialed in at 13.3. When it was all said and done i took down a SRT10 Viper in the semi to end up running an old school cuda drag car, we both broke out cause i got nervous/he gave it a lil too much but i was further away so i took 2nd. The guy was amazed a 5 speed fwd car almost took him down, his car being a 12.0-12.2 car consistantly
