Default Went to PIR on Saturday

And I was pretty disappointed, but oh well.

Well I went to PIR on Saturday night b/c I was in Portland for mother's day, and I decided to go drag my car. Last time (and first) I went out was last summer with my Jetta and it was sorely pathetic. I ran 15.6 @ 94 w/ 91 APR (boost wasn't going over 14 though), DV, CAI, back seats out, N75 J, which is crappy b/c that should run me around a second faster. I couldn't launch and just wasn't experienced.

So this time out I knew it would be a easier, but still tough b/c I've never dragged this car. Well my first two runs were inferiorating! Couldn't get into 2nd. I wasn't grinding it but I would just miss the shift b/c it was hard to get into (those runs were mid 15's). My 3rd run I finally broke into 14's (14.9 @ 95) w/ a crappy 60'(2.444). I ran another SRT-4 on that run and was doing 14.6 (stock I assume, he wasn't friendly).

My next run against the SRT-4 was the best though, but not great.
R/T--- .793 (I didn't care about it)
60' --- 2.339 (best)
330 -- 6.424
1/8 --- 9.713
MPH -- 75.67
1000 -- 12.465
1/4 --- 14.792
MPH --- 96.31
I really thought I coulda got a 14.5 with some better launching and shifting, but my car was getting warm, as was my shifter. I really think I should get a STS and motor mounts. Thus, if I learn how to launch and shift those things alone would probably put me around a 14.4.

My last run was against a guy in a WRX who had bought the car a week ago (really breaking it in). He said he owned a wagon, traded it in, transferred his stuff, and was running near 320hp. He told me he ran a 13.9 the night b4, and low and behold he ran a 13.9 against me. Then he ran a 13.9 like 4 more times. I felt bad for him b/c he just couldn't run any faster, but he had good 60's (a 1.9 against me).

Some other highlights were the old Mopar, Ford, and Chevy muscle cars running 11's, a C4 vette getting a 10, a RV!! running a 29.xxx, and two cars getting the exact same time on the same run (18 something).

make sure that youre lowering your tire pressure (about 25psi will do, no lower than 22psi) to help you out on the launch. a botched launch can creat havoc on an e.t.

dont worry about the car getting warm, your intercooler will treat you great. my first time to the track i made 23 runs and the final one was my best run of the whole day. i got it down to a 14.0 which remains my best stock time.

glad you had fun, it gets better and better!

Thanks J.R. for the tips. Yeah I know I need to lower the tire pressure, but unfortunately I've never bought a gauge (i know, they're cheap).

The car itself being warm I wasn't worried about, but the shifter was pretty warm, which was probably normal, but in my Jetta the boot covered the shart so I've never felt it warm like that before. That I just need a to do something to make sure I keep the knob on.

14.0! that's amazing, I just don't get how an "average joe" (which you probably aren't) can get that good of a stock time. Hopefully I'll get to practice more this summer. The stip really helps me from speeding everywhere though b/c I get it all out then. Auto-x'ing next month also for the first time.

i got a few people around here (or will soon be around here) who need to drag me out auto-x'ing. that is gonna be like funfunfunx10. ive already told two people that that is their duty. also, the track time does help leviate some of my desire to drive like a major idiot a lot of times. kind of a sanity keeper.

for anyone who does a lot of road racing or auto-x'ing (or plans to), you probably want to check out this thread. i dont mean to scare anyone even though thats what the thread will do. Another wheel flies off
