Default Welcome to the real world, kid.

Well, most of you guys know i just finished highschool last month. Dont plan on going to college for another year, so i figured it was time to go get a real job and leave the fish and chips.
I went to Mukilteo today for an interview and i got the job!
I press sheet metal all day. Hahaha i'm a real man now.
M-F 6:30 to 3:00 @11 hr.
Anyway, i'll be making a ballsload more at this new place. That 50 trim and R6 are coming much sooner than expected.
Waking up at 5:30 every morning is gonna blow balls but the paychecks will be worth it.
..Plus, lifting sheets of metal all day, i'm gonna be fing ripped!

Awesome. Don't get sucked into the all work and no school thing. Most people who take time off to work never end up going to school. Don't be that guy.

QFT! I see it even in the stealerships, kids come in and wash cars for $10 an hour, think it is the best thing that ever happened to them, washing cars (if you call it that) listening to the radio and spinning the tires on everything they drive. Then they realize the money isn't enough to get what they want and no where near enough for school, so they keep putting off getting out of there. Have one kid that is celebrating year 5 in the recon department.....no closer to going back to school than he is to making more than $10 an hour for the rest of his life!!

Think of doing the military thing? my niece went that route, she is an aviation structural mechanic and also hydraulic specialist, when she started she made almost $400 a month more than I do, 3 years later she makes almost double what I do! She has bought a house, new car and is able to save for college when she gets out, plus the military will pay for a huge chunk of that for her.

It does so with authority and poise, but while slipping relatively unnoticed through traffic, never being violent, or dare I say it, frightening. When you ask the SRT-4 to take you somewhere fast, it punches you in the face, throws you over its shoulder, and runs, screaming, so quickly that its tires can barely keep up."

True indeed, however; Newsweek had a compelling article a few years back, on the pros and cons of a minimum 4 year degree....lets say the ave. college tuition annually comes to 15k (just throwing anumber out there) multiply that times 4, so know your at 45k.....lets couple that with living expense at 1000 monthly, so know your at another 48k, leaving us a grand total of 92k.....couple that with the FOUR years you DID NOT WORK FULL TIME NOR DID YOU GAIN ANY ON THE JOB EXPERIENCE, that number is intagible but surely it IS substantial......now lets look at a job paying 11 an hour....lets say for the entire FOUR years you stay at 11 an hour, before taxes at 40 hours a week your looking at 84480......nearly breaking even with what you woulda been in the hole college wise (again, not including the time lost you COULD HAVE BEEN WORKING)......again, this number (84480) is based on staying at a steady 11 an hour......not saying college isn't a great route, but not always the way to go.....I imagine you are starting as an "apprentice" not sure what the cap is on that, but I imagine maxed out it is somewhat substantial....

The point is this, dont think that you HAVE to go to college to be succesful (financially, I make close to six figures and I'm still an A-hole ) Just have to be focused on what makes YOU happy, and become the best at whatever that is......

Also, the air force is not a bad route either, I wouldn't suggest to anyone to go in the Army or Mairines, or Navy for that matter, not that they're bad, there actually terrible (sorry COY, you know its true pal ) I joined in the 2001 before 9-11 and did my 6 years as an electrician.....got out and know work civil service for the Air Force on Mcchord....

Just do what makes you happy, but make sure you think LONG TERM and stay FOCUSED!!!

You'll be alright youngblood
