Default Trying to find a good shop in or around Federal Way.

Ok...i'm getting a p-440 for the last couple months. Is there any good shop in the Federal Way area that could help me out? I don't want to pay dealership prices but am always hesitant about going to shops I don't know. (I've only been here a couple months)

Any help would be much appreciated!!

Just off the top of my you may have not had your gas cap tight enough.

Cheapest way to find out- fill up tank put gas cap on real tight, disconnect batery for a few minutes then hook it back up and go for a drive see if Check engine tight comes back on.

Happened with my neighbors neon.

I've ruled out the cap. I make sure it's tight every time and have changed the cap itself. It takes about two days for it to fail.

Thanks for the info turbo frog...did the service manual have any suggestions on a fix?

Zane was closer to a home run then me, I was way off in right feild..... here is the info;

When Monitored and Set Condition:

P0440-GENERAL EVAP SYSTEM FAILURE

When Monitored: Engine Running. Fuel Level greater than 12%. Ambient Temperature between 4°C and 32°C (39°F and 89°F) Set Condition: The PCM does not see the NVLD switch close during the medium/large leak test. The PCM will then increase the vacuum supply to the EVAP system by
increasing flow through the EVAP Purge valve. If the switch does not close with an increase in vacuum, an error is detected. Two Trip Fault.\

Possible Causes:

GOOD TRIP EQUAL TO ZERO
VISUAL AND PHYSICAL INSPECTION
EVAP PURGE SOLENOID VACUUM SUPPLY INSPECTION
EVAP PURGE SOLENOID STUCK CLOSED
NVLD SWITCH OPERATION
(Z1) GROUND CIRCUIT OPEN
NVLD ASSEMBLY
(K107) NVLD SWITCH SIGNAL CIRCUIT OPEN
EVAPORATIVE EMISSION LEAK DETECTION
PCM

PM Me your email address I will forward the PDF on this alarm

Maybe its time I make some copies of the service manual for people to have.

Also I'm no mechanic by anymeans so I dont know how it may be the same but I know other makes of vehicles have had evap problems and it was a charcoal filter or something. I dont remember seeing one when I replaced my fuel system.

There used to be a posted PDF on the forum, seach function brings up nothing, I found that info in the "PL Gas Power Train" on the 04 Service Disk. If you go to section 25 of the service manual it show diagrams of everything.
