Default TNT yesterday 6/29

well ive figured out how to get a raceday. the trick is to not get hyped up about it. a total of 4 srt-4s were there including 2 forums members. i saw a black one, but only talked to the guy for a second, then he left shortly after. the other was mark who a lot of us met at the mopar drags in bremerton (silver).

my car isnt producing numbers like it used to, im trying to figure out what the deal is. instead of 13.2s all day on race gas mode im pulling 13.5s all day. my first run was the best one where i forgot to press the race gas button until after the launch. im not sure why i didnt stick with that system since it brought me a 13.30 on a day filled with 13.4s to 13.6s. im wondering if i have a wounded clutch that may not be fully engaging. any insight on that would be excellent. the only other thing ive done to the car besides put on 10,000 miles since the 13.0 is change the suspension and add the check valve. ive recently cleaned the k&n filter so it should be as efficient as its going to get.

the day was dissapointing until my 6th run. before we were even up to the waterbox area this guy in a '99 cobra is just revving the piss out of his engine trying to threaten me. i didnt even look over. when we ran he got me by .2 at the 60' being rear wheel drive, but i passed him quite easily running a 13.61 to his 13.74.
michelle met up with me at the lanes and overheard the guy saying "im gonna fucking kill myself." edogg was coming from behind his car and could also tell he was getting really pissed off. when the guy popped his hood edogg also noticed he was spraying.
we ended up being the first to be waiting for our next run and as luck would have it we get to run together again. this time there was no revving (not by him ) and we took off again. this time since he slept at the tree we were even at the 60' and i still walked him 1320 ft to the line. me: 13.64, him: 13.88. after that run he didnt return to the staging lanes, never saw him after he peeled off into the pit area.

it would have just been another day of crappy runs, but these two were the most glorious ive had in a long time. not because i did anything special, just that some guy didnt know how to give credit where its due; he just thought his machine was the best in the world.. well at least faster than a "neon."

Actually, last night was quite entertaining. Right after J.R. ran the guy in the Cobra the first time, there was an older BMW pulling up to race. He was revving the engine like crazy. The light turned green and he goes to slam on the gas and blew the tranny! There was a guy standing down by the gates watching and screams really loud, "FARCK!" and slams his helmet against the gate. I was a little shocked and then the guys in the stands were laughing and talking crap. The guy turns around and is like, "That's my car! I told him to go easy on it!" The guys in the stands laughed harder and said, "I hope he's a good friend!" I thought it was pretty funny! Poor guy had to have his car towed.

I know what it is JR . . . it's cause Brian and I haven't been there to cheer you on . . . last year you did awesome cause we were in the stands! He he! Just kiddin!

Anyways, sucky about the times. You were so close with the 13.040 . . . I keep waiting to see a post from you that you got into the 12's!

I'd be really pissed too if I was the guy in the cobra . . . spraying and running a high 13 while still getting beat!

I ran a couple 13.4's

Oh btw J.R. you forgot to mention that the Cobra also had a ZEX nitrous system installed!

Your clutch is fine, you were still trapping 107 on some of your runs so it was just your lack of traction in first gear.

there is no way that guy had nitrous....if he was pulling you in the 60' that means he was getting traction. NOW i'm not one to defend the ford make....BUT i know for a fact that either HE really sucked at driving or he wasnt using his nitrous there is NO way to hook up AND spray and run high 13s in a 99 cobra...so maybe it was a V6 with nitrous????or a GT with nitrous BUT NOT a cobra with nitrous!!!! a BONE STOCK '99 cobra runs high 13s on street tires...with 50 or more horsepower on tap there is just no way that i can see this happening...so i'm calling him out as either a shitty driver or no spray....
~Sean

PS nice times JR your running what I ran in my STOCK '03 in september of '03

13.6@99mph BONE STOCK AND I HAVE A SLIP TO PROVE IT!!!! AND WITNESSES!!!!

i was gonna change the oil at the last minute, but i didnt have an oil filter so that idea went out the window. theres only 2600 miles on that oil anyhow. i did rotate the tires for the better ones up front though. ive concluded that i really miss the pilot sports, i could launch much better on those things. i do have 2 sets of spark plugs i should get to using. i could set them both to different gaps and play around with that. im still on the same plugs from the 13.040 run which still look good.

edogg either heard the guy talking about the n20 kit or saw it himself. the hood was up, but from my distance and angle i couldnt see anything. i was going to go inform him he would have to turn the knob in order to open up the bottle. well thats one of a hundred things i was thinking of saying to him.

i think that if i had run 13.1s or 13.2s along side him he would have called it a day at a fast piece of shit, but being edged out must have been killing him. oh well, just a crappy day at the track whoopin up a '99 cobra. okay, that was corny, id have to admit.

nobody thinks the clutch could have something to do with it? my launches werent fantastic, first run: 2.131, the rest 2.2s. i just checked some slips from last year i ran many 13.2s 13.3s and 13.4s on 2.2 60' times. should i try to clean my intake out? ive got no catch can and things could be getting pretty sloppy and slushy in there.

to do list:
new oil
new plugs
intake tract cleaning
find somebody with '03 tires still in good shape

j.r.

p.s. i realize i did keep my best two pilot sports. even though one is mounted, the other rim i have is too bent to hold air. adding fixing rim to the to do list.
