Default To Stand Alone or not to stand alone that is the question ...

Anyone local have any experience with the Hydra systems on other cars? ...

I see they were just released for the SRT4 and am considering buying one. More control over the engine sounds like it would be awesome ... anyone else planning on trying it out?

A good friend of mine has the hydra on his wrx and absolutely loves it. It isn't a hard install and if needed is a very good tool to have. If you have engine mods where the stock computer doesn't get it done anymore than I say go for it. The only problem with any stand alone is the fact that it doesn't adapt to atmospheric changes. So most likely everytime you drive the car you will have to change the map a little to make the car run like you want it to.

Well I just payed in full for one and with all my mods, this system is more than necessary. The Hydra stand alone is very similiar in that it shares all the basic functions and option as either the AEM, Haltech, F.A.S.T, and TEC 2/3. It is windows based and has an auto tune wizard to get you up and running in little time.

The best thing about the Hydra is it is the ONLY P&P stand alone for our cars, utilizing on the power control module and uses all existing sensors currently in your car. It takes all of about 10 minutes to get you up and running. The long part is routing the harness and picking a spot for the unit.

As of now Hydra Nemisis is upgrading there website to introduce all the new upgrades currently being implemented in the Hydra. Ray at Revitup Motorsports is the only vendor and thus far his customer service and knowledge of this system is outstanding. He is running this on his car as he just loves it. They took the same Hydra unit and put it in a bone stock SRT, did some tuning, raised the rev limit to 7000 rpms and made some crazy power with it. Then they took it off, and the car started up and drove away problem free. Shall we say redundant operations.

Once you learn the dynamics with the help and assistance from Ray and the Hydra folks, the Hydra will be a breeze to operate.

Now then, here is an awesome web link of the Hydra and all its functions in thorough detail. The write-up is detailed with pictures.

What would make Hydra a better choice over AEM? Proof is in the pudding, AEM stand alones have put down stupid power on Evo's and Wrx's. Both units use pNp technology and work off of stock sensors.

I am torn between both systems, they both look awesome, but I am leaning towards AEM, just for the fact of previous #'s I have seen personally.

The main differance I see is this is available now and AEM is still a wait. in fact a longer wait then the ICEMAN INTAKE.

Lol..................No shit. The AEM Stand alone seems like a figment of my imagination. I have 1/2 of the money saved up for it, but the waiting is killing me. The stand alone is the key to 450+whp......come to poppa!

The other thing that sucks is that the SRT model cost over $700 more then for any othe make.

SRT new is only 2/3 the price of EVO or WRX but EMS system is more. Must because they plan on selling more units for the other vehicles.

Thanks for the input ... I think I am going to go this route before dropping much more in the car because at least I can mod without screwing around with sensors etc everytime I want to change or tweak something.
