Default Scion TC

Well talked to Evette, and talked to my insurance company to find out how much the insurance would only be about 300$ a month compared to 650 for the Srt-4 so when I turn 18 I am gonna get a new car woot

Hmm....real performance or wanna-be? That is a hard decision.

My son will get the SRT-4 soon as I can get the Metro on Steroids. The insurance on the Metro is less than 125.00 vice 600.00 per 6-months (age here). SO I can see your point.

Real performance? 160hp and 163lb/ft stock?? I can make it a performance and in about 5 months they are adding a supercharger option!! They tune your vehicle like mopar does without voiding your warranty, and then I can add horsepower without adding insurance rates. The first time buyer program will make my payments on the new car around 300$ also so basically im paying about 600$ for a new car a month which isnt bad. If ill be making more money if you get my point

Think parasitic lost with any supercharger. Adding more pulleys to the belt driveline is not the answer.

160-HP, that is at the crank and not at the wheel. I come to laugh at the Scion tC, since it starting to become popular here in Southern Cali. 03 SRTs cars are rated around 215 -222HP stock (not all cars are alike).

Read up on the testing from ScionSpeed with there latest turbo kit.

Let me correct this as some of our Mopar vendor are doing also (dealership reps): Stage packages from Mopar does not void your warranty.

I dunno. The Scion tC is a nice car. A cheap Toyota. It's a good car for an 18 yr old. Seriously, Josh...if you had an SRT you would kill yourself within a month..just bein real with ya. Also, with the lack of power the tC has, it won't encourage you to race. Trust me, with 18-yr old insurance, you don't want any tickets or accidents.

The tC is an awesome car for the money. Yeah sure you can spend an extra 3-4 grand to get an SRT, but then as Josh said, you will more than likely have higher insurance rates as well. Not everyone wants a car with all that power. That's why I went with the tC. I could have bought an SRT for around $2000 more than the tC cost me, but I didn't want a 4 door 'sports' car. I drove Nathan's SRT and it's fast, but more than I need out of a daily driver.

I think you would love the tC Josh. It's very quick and there is quite a bit of aftermarket out for them already after a little less than a year of production. Plus you'd be less apt to get yourself in all kinds of trouble! Which I think we all know would happen!

I'm not saying my tC is the fastest thing out there, I don't care that SRT's are faster. Big deal. With all the traffic I drive in every day I don't see the point. I'd rather look better and be slower!

Josh the TC is a cool car for you, and 600 bucks is not that bad for insurance and car payment. You might want to check around some more and look at different insurance companies to see if you can get a better rate. If you have good health insurance through your work, you can drop PIP from your insurance which will make it go down alot. I don't care what you get, you will be racing it once it's broken in, but I doubt you will be hitting shopping carts anymore. Any way you look at it your still part of the SRT family, and I will be happy to remind you anytime you want that my SRT owns you..........and your TC. See you at the Feb. Drive!

Get a WRX! haha, Im paying 258 a month insurance for an 02 WRX, and bought the car for 18k with low miles. I have 2 tickets, and an accident on my record right now, accident isnt against me, but for some reason allstate still dicks me on it =(.

Why is your insurance so high on another note? That seems extreme amount for an 18 year old on a non sporty car....

Non sporty? It's not a camry. It's because he is 18. Anyone that is 18 usually gets raped on insurance. The best way to get a good rate is to stay under the umbrella account with your parents. I pay 224 a month for my SRT and I have no tickets and no accidents and I have the bare minimun full coverage, and I am 22.

Yep, glad everyone is agreeing...well almost everyone. Yeah I think this is going to be a great car for me and a little bit after my birthday I am going to go and get it. I am not going to go to UTI, my mom is become fairly ill and I have to be here to take care of her. I dont want an srt-4 like james said I would prob kill myself within the first month of having it, I am not ready to have that kind of power for a daily driver. I plan on doing upgrades one thing at a time. I called my old boss at Lynnwood Dodge and asked for my job back when I turn 18, and he said he is going to put alot of thought into it. I really liked it there and I made good money and working full time I was guranteed 35-50 hours a week. Making $300 a week was good enough for me so about 1,000 a month and 600 towards a new car and not having to pay rent. That would be 8.50 an hour which If I get my old job back I will ask to be at least 10 an hour. But hey no more ghetto mazda in June 2005 woot so happy!

I like the Tc quite a bit. Nice looking car, and its a coupe. I'm thinking of picking up a used one after they get out there. I wouldn't do much except maybe wheels, tint, and audio though. As long as its not stupid slow I'm fine with it.

True. 163 ft-lbs of torque is pretty respectable. Weighs as much as an SRT though. It should get to 60 in around 8 seconds or so.

That's a far cry from the 'less than 8.5 secs' the magazines claim...but I didn't look that hard either...
