Default Possible Boost Leak ?

Hi All,

Went and made a boost leak tester today. Came home got out the air compressor and tested my car. I could not get it to pressurize any higher than 13 Psi. I should be able to get it to go higher right ?

05 SRT with a little under 5K miles. Only mod on the car is a Forge BOV a friend gave me. Heard that these BOV's had some problems. Could a ripped diaphram on the BOV be keeping me from pressurizing any higher than 13 psi ?

Thanks

Could be one of 3 things.

You have a boost leak.

You have a pussy air compressor

You built a shitty boost leak checker and it leaks.

Tighten up all you IC hoses and the one behind the turbo and zip tie everything.

You should be able to hit what ever boost pressure you want to when pressure testing. I always pressure test above what i run. So if you run max of 16 psi test to 18 or 20. You should be able to hear what was leaking, where was the sound coming from? It the air was coming from the BOV area i would think to start there.

like they said, tighten everything and zip tie anything you can't tighten ,,,,, hehe ... This is accually no joke.

Then like they said, you will hear it when it is leaking, just track it down.

It won't hold your PSI, but you should be able to build PSI to your desired level. I build to about 20psi and it drops about 1 psi per second.

it would not even build the PSI past 13. I think we have come to find out that is BOV is ghey and will be putting the stock one back on next weekend and re do the test. The leak tester was checked a few times to see if it had leaks. I was suprised it actually held up. The air-compressor we used was a decent one. That far left bolt was not even tighted down. but once we got it tight it went from 11psi to 13psi.

Quick question, when you boost leek test, do you just pressurize the system to desired pressure (with reg) and unhook the air? Or do you just keep supplying the desired amount of pressure and leave the air hooked up looking for leaks?? I would suspect pressure would bleed off throught the engine to a point.

Yep, keep it hooked up, as long as you can regulate it. It does bleed out through the TB, so while you can fill and listen, it can take few cycles that way.

OK I can not belive everyone missed the important things. Was the key on? Did you cap the black line going to the intake elbow? (leaks boost). Do you have a check valve? If not you must plug the line coming off the manifold becasue the PCV valve leaks boost. Other then that when you get those fixed I bet you will boost higher or you just have a crappy compressor.

Hmm, no I didn't do all of those things. Me=Rookie I will try again some night after work this week. I think my air compressor should be ok. Small Craftsman from Sears. Plug it in and it pumps up to 120 psi.

While the check valve might be a benifit it will make little to no difference in boost or boost leak checking if the PVC system is working properly. I have tested my car to 20 psi many times and have the stock PVC system. So the check valve is an added bonus, but not a requirment of a boost leak test.

So what you're saying is that the PCV is not working properly if it allows boost to leak back into the crankcase?

Just tested mine this weekend and it bleeds like crazy.

Any vendors here sell a good replacement PCV?
