Lightbulb Poll - Turbo or No

Starting to plan...do I want to go single/twin turbo or supercharger route for the 'stang? Was thinking about maybe going w/ a couple SRT stock turbo's at first maybe w/ some custom piping. Give me some ideas everyone...!

go twin turbo the only reason is its easier to install and less plumming cross the engine bay!!! plus you have mroe power and the power comes on sooner. the only problem is the initial buy in of 2 turbo's

we were looking to do a turbo setup in my pals 69 stang and he wanted to go single turbo to keep cost down but to fab up the manifold would just be too much... all the piping and it would just clutter the engine bay.. if you were to go big single (inside the engine bay) get it put in the back like the LS1's do but then you have to run all oil lines and water lines back and front to the engine (also the charge pipes) and your turbo would be subject to all the road debree and imagine how hard it would be to find a leak... just easer to do twin.. and it looks just bad ass having a twin in there. and you can have 2 70 trim turbo's in there..(you don't need the quick spool you have tq of that 5.0 for that) and usually the bigger laggier turbo's don't cost as much..

just an idea... well mine anyways

lol...as far as tq...yeah, do have a little of that...the 300tq base is nice to work off of...but I was thinking of going with the SRT's as starters...get used to those and then step up to larger...lol

Inless i missunderstand it i don't think you could use the srt's turbo because of the turbo fold. If it was a conventional turbo it would be different, but fabing up manifolds to work would be very hard. But i say go with twins, big ones. Seen a 1200 hp corvette with twins, and it was the most impressive car i have ever seen.

Awesome instead of one shitty turbo you could have two shitty stockers. It won't work. The turbofold as said above by Randy is not going to work. You need something with a flange to bolt onto some custom manifolds.

Looks like single big and a supercharger are tied with 5 a piece.

what year mustang are you looking to do this on first of all? if its a fox body, go t61 single turbo because the stock long block 302ci is built idealy for a turbo if you had to use a power adder. if you have a mustang 94or higher, get a supercharger. If you have enough money you would want to do a twin turbo set up. However...I wouldn't recomend doing this on a stock block at all. The stock connecting rods on the GT blocks (assuming you have a GT) are poop. If you want to spend around 6k install and all, get a supercharger, they're still just as fun. The only advantage with a turbo kit is the fact you can have HUGE amounts of power (700, 800, 900 hp).

As far as the car, it's 86 GT...I'm getting another block soon, with beefed up components throughout. As for the "only advantage of a turbo" being huge hp...that's a big advantage...especially for drag racing.

Bruce,
Twins have been done before on a budget, reverse the shortie headers so that they face forward, find 2 turbos off of a SVO or turbo cougar (any 2.3L turbo Ford) these are not only sized correctly (and cheap) but bolt up easily. Plumbing all lines and tubing will be custom done but it's doable. An intercooler will allow more boost but also add to plumbing headaches. PS see me when you get ready to plumb it, I've got a connection for the stuff you'll need.

Randy

Twins on Jay Lenos RWD Olds Toronado was ridiculously, stupid fast. Granted he probably spent a couple of hundred grand to build it, but I thought it was pretty impressive.
I too say go with twins
