what the hell is going on in seattle this is some major bull shit know we wont even have a basketball team, hopefuly someone in the state can fork over enough money to build a new arena if not there goes the Seattle Sonics and here Comes the Oklahoma Sonics... Howard Schultz can suck on my exhaust pipe
I agree with the King. Taxpayers already voted against one of the stadiums that were built, and then the lawmakers in Olympia did an end-around and bypassed what the people had to say.
Providing public funding for a private enterprise is nothing more than a welfare system for the rich. Goodbye Sonics, hello Jailblazers. Hopefully my man Brandon Roy can turn them around.
Hopefully people aren't forgetting about our traffic problems. The infrastructure in our state (520, the viaduct, expansion of I-5?!), and its future capacity to serve the citizens, is much more important and pressing of an issue than diverting MORE tax dollars to a bunch of rich owners so that they can sip Cristal in their state-of-the-art luxury suites.

Agreed completely. I went off on a similar rant when I heard they wanted a new arena. Key topics were 'fuck em', 'who cares' and 'there are worse off teams'.
From a business perspective, Schultz bought them for $200M and sold for $350M. I don't know what his expenses were, but nearly doubling your money can't all be bad.
Shultz lost money every year he owned them. Why? Partly because the key arena is one of the smallest of arenas in the entire league. It only seats 17000 people! That and the sonics are crap. They start a player from Blaine for petes sake! haha I know that doesn't mean anything but it still sounds good. :-P
Secondly, who gives a shit if they leave. They haven't brought anything to the table for the last 27 years. For crying out loud half the people on this forum weren't alive 27 years ago.
Besides, the arena can fill up with concerts and other venues just fine. Tax payers won't get money back on it because of that reason.

I think the people of seattle need to be greatful that they have team and pony up to do what it takes to keep them here. There are way to many people in this town willing to spend their 10 dollars a day on Starbucks but when it comes to things like raising hotel taxes a half cent to pay for a new area all the sudden everyone objects.

I for one don't spend $10 a day at Starbucks (I like my coffee black and cheap..like my car lol) but I couldn't justify spending the tax $$ on an arena when Seattle is closing their schools because they can't afford to keep them open.
How many books could they buy with $220,000,000?

Thank you James, I believe there is a benifit to a professional teams in Seattle. We have multiple pro teams. Yes the least favorite is having togo. Yes business will get hurt in the short period after they go, but with the growth rate of Seattle this quickly become a history question and someone else will see the loss as their gain. What's done is done.
Agreed. That kind of money builds bridges and expands roadways to ease traffic problems. Fills a lot of potholes, too.
Sad thing is, people would actually be more willing to pass a bill to pay for the arena than pass a levy for their school or the roads. I suppose the general feeling is that the other programs are lacking funds due to poor fiscal management so people don't want to throw money at it to fix it. On the other hand, throwing that kind of money at an arena is throwing money at a private enterprise. I doubt it could be any better.
