My Screwed up Sun - John please read

Alright...so dropping off a friend down in Auburn/Kent area and I suddenly feel the tranny disengage. A moment later it re-engages but won't shift out of first (auto tranny btw). Get to a parking lot, check the codes...I'm getting P0700, basically saying that the Transmission Control Module is throwing a code.
So I got to limp the car back home on back roads, stuck in 1st the whole way.
Anyone have any ideas on cause/issue while I'm waiting to get a hold of the service department at Lithia?

So after doing some research and talking to one of the service techs it's probably the solenoid. I'm waiting to hear back a price for a replacement one

Update - trans shift solenoid as suspected - grand total for that replacement only - 619ish plus tax
Total with the water pump they say is leaking badly (even though I've only ever seen a few drops now and then under the car) and of course the timing belt which is due for replacement at the 91K mark, and a tranny flush/filter/new gasket - 1739.35 plus tax
only getting the solenoid replaced at the moment so I can at least make it to work one day this week...and the rest done sometime next week or so - but the bank account hates me.

Sorry this is the first time I have seen this. I have to agree but more likely then not its just debris in there blocking the open and close of the solenoid. You could clean it out and save some money but its a gamble most of the time. Regular tranny flushes would have kept this from happening, so if you have not done them shame on you (dont worry I skip 90% of my regular maitinence as well). Damn I forgot how much the deal makes when it comes to getting parts installed and work done to customers cars. Get it up and running and you should be good to go till that water pump goes out.

Whats up with the Mustang?

well, got the solenoid replaced...and I did have my tranny flushed about 35k ago...a little past the suggested mark of 24k...and with the new solenoid I'm noticing a lack of certain things that I've been randomly noticing over the last few months...so yeah, it was probably coming due...and I just wasn't paying enough attention. As far as the water pump...I'm looking to find somewhere else I can have the water pump and timing belt swapped that won't cost me a grand.

As far as the mustang...her and the motor are possibly going up for sale...so many things popping up and not enough money to finish the project.

oh yeah, John...can't you get parts from the dealerships for a cheaper price now too? If so, could you check on the price for a timing belt and water pump for me?

Last time I checked it was like $112 for the pump and $64 for the belt. Now that is SRT stuff so it might be cheaper for the regular neon. Hit me up with the year and model and I will get those prices for you.
