Default magazines.com scam?

so i get home and find a bill for two mag subscriptions in the mail...oprah magazine and some other womens mag...

first response was WTF is this shit, second was "i think i know who did this"

-
so i call them up and tell them i didn't order oprah magazine...and she asks if ive broken up with a crazy GF lately lol

i'm then told that whoever placed the order used my actual email address, and they spelled my name correctly (very hard to do unless you know it)

-

i thought it might be one of those scams where they send you a 'fake' bill in hopes of you just paying it...but it doesn't look to be one of those

anyone had spontaneous magazines.com bills arrive? or did i piss someone off

Oprah Magazine has been cited for this practice before.....Oprah claimed no knowledge of the practice. In some cases MULTIPLE subscriptions were sent and billed to the same address.

Yes it is a scam. Good luck getting it resolved.

Reminds me of the shit they pull at BestBuy... I was there buying Christmas gifts and they ask me if I wanted a trial magazine subscription. I made sure I asked, "I don't get automatically billed, right?" "No, absolutely not." So I get my couple issues of Sports Illustrated and I'm looking at my credit card statement online when I see $30 for Sports Illustrated subscription. I was in the middle of class but was so fuckin heated that I just grabbed my cell phone, left class, and called the number that was on my statement. Apparently this happens often because they had a special line set up for all these cancellation requests. I had to go through a bunch of fuckin prompts when all I was trying to get to was a real person so I could bitch them out. I hit 0 to talk to a rep but I had to still enter a bunch of info. I never did get to talk to a rep but the recording said my subscription was cancelled and I'd get my money back... and sure enough, I did.

Bastards though, fuckin corporate bastards just automatically throwing stuff on my credit card like it's no big deal. I can't stand that shit.
